Well, we have 3 options: just look at the list, talk about how great it is, or talk about how crappy it is. In this case it's crappy, so I went that route. Would it be less tiresome to you if we talked about how we wouldn't have picked the songs, but we can see NME's point, and good for them for going out of their way and listing 50 songs?

I just looked at it.

Howzabout a new thread where we list our OWN "Indie Anthems"?
Of course, that would get derailed as we all argue over the defenition of an anthem, and then later start pissing on each others' lists.

Cool.

Let's do it.

Also if you haven't realized yet, Indie is the new Alternative

*underground (or undernet or subcyber)
*the snobbish youthful

Man, I can't think of anything good. Maybe in a few years they can just switch back to 'alternative'

Also, if they are going to put 4-5 Oasis songs on there, I think Bon Jovi deserves at least one.

Explains the tendency to favour Kurt Cobain over Eddie Vedder and Axl Rose.

But its a good fuckin song.

I don't really see how anyone can get too up in arms about an NME list with a bunch of pretty good britpop type songs from the 'indie' years.

If you put this mix on in a bar, I wouldn't complain too much, really.

I agree but it's played out at least for me.

I just take issue with their definition of "indie".

Sorry, I guess they should have made sure to only have songs less than 14 people have ever heard.

WTF? NO TING TING LA LA and HIS MAGICAL CHINESE TRIANGLE BAND?!!?1?

At least song 2 is the sort of thing many of us would have put on our lists ten years ago, so it passes some kind of longevity test.

Somehow I imagine the floor-fillers of my youth (which seems to be where they're going with anthem here) are not going to be rounding out the top ten...

Daft Punk - Around the World
Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
Cornershop - Brim Full of Asha
Prodigy - Firestarter
Cardigans - Lovefool

etc etc etc
