I thought this would be about you attending Law Day events, Mr. Barrister.

(Just got back from brefuh with pretty much the entire plaintiff's bar and bar officers, etc)

This + Haq's post = WTF?

Sorry I know more about your profession than you two geniuses combined.

from wiki:

"Law Day" was created in the late 1950s, by the American Bar Association to draw attention to both the principles and practice of law and justice. President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day by proclamation in 1958. It is defined in 36 U.S.C. § 113[1]. May 1, which is also International Workers' Day, was chosen as Law Day.

Like Earth Day, Law Day is not an actual government holiday. In fact, few outside the legal community in the United States are even aware of the existence of Law Day. To celebrate Law Day, some local bar associations hold a luncheon, featuring speakers who discuss topics such as justice or the liberties provided for by the United States Constitution. Also, attorneys might visit schools and talk to students about the American legal system. It is suspected that the date of May 1 was, in the context of the then-growing Cold War climate, chosen to deflect attention from the May Day holiday celebrated by labor movements around the world.

If you ask nice I can probably dig up President (then Governor) Carter's Law Day Speech from 1974 aka the beginning of his presidential campaign.

Again, sorry for being smarter than everyone. Maybe if you read anything besides comic books you could tell your asshole from your elbow. Tell the truth, one of your sisters had to pass the Government Service Exam for you to even become a Newman.

Seems like utterly meaningless. How can you keep a straight face and act like a holiday described as "like Earth Day" is important?

You win, Haq. Have fun toiling in the public domain research division for Shyster, Shylock and Ambulance Chaser.

Make sure to not attend anything like Bench Bar lunches, Law Day breakfasts, or even network within your chosen practice area -- you will get ahead FAST that way.

WTF Loog?

Seriously seems like a reason for big dogs to get together and make themselves feel important. Or it's another tool for firms to recruit people.

I highly doubt every law firm participates in this.

I forgot, around here this is code for "capitalist scum."

Sorry, these are the people I deal with, you know successful lawyers?

I just thought it was funny that our two future barristers know so much about the business. I sometimes make it a habit to immerse myself in the nuances of things I am supposed to be involved in. Sorry for being thorough. I will now go back to playing Fergie records.

Sorry, it's simply a networking instrument. Agreed that networking can be a key to success but don't take some high ground that you know more than other people because you were told to go work "Law Day". Yes you may be working with the "successful lawyers" that get use out of the day but the 1st year guys probably don't give shit about it.

Also, I'm sure Carter gave that speech because he cared about "Law Day" and not the potential campaign donations.

I wasn't told to go work anything...was invited to a breakfast. Have known that Law Day was May 1st for almost as long as I can remember, so your other excuses don't hold up either.

I can tell you want to try to match wits today, so I will ATTEMPT to ignore the fact that you just insulted Georgia's only president, and its finest institution of higher learning.

I think we would all be served well if the lot of you would just admit that, in this case, I am right.

I'm sure your knowledge of Law Day can be traced to sometime around 2001 but feel free to tell me how you've known about it since the 3rd grade when you attended "Law Day" in the cafeteria.

Don't hold your breath thinking I'll concede shit.

The only reason I posted anything in here is because of what a prick you turned into when people didn't give a shit about fucking Law Day.

I would say that a prickish response got my hackles up, but feel free to cast me as the villain in the Loog-Obsessed Passion Play that is the Chronicles of Rick Derris.

Why am I just now starting to read this?

I missed a good'un. I guess I must have nodded off at the mention of Law Day

And, just to make things that much clearer, I have known about Law Day since I was floating in my mothers womb. I think I may have actually been the one to tell Mr. Loog about Law Day in the first place.

FUCK. LAW DAY! :)

Make sure its good Bourbon, you know from Tennessee?

Or how about some Scotch? I hear the Irish make the best Whisky.
