I knew that I had to get to sleep last night, but just could not turn that damn thing off. Amazing stuff.

Part of it was the typical narration/still photo/short clip format, but it was interspersed all Ahmet Gerun (sp.?) sitting around, 1-on-1 with: Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Ben E. King, Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, etc., etc., etc.... and reminiscing about the creation of the music that they all were putting out in 1957 to 1973, or so.

Hearing Ahmet and Ray talking about how they wrote and recorded "What I'd Say". And hearing he and Aretha talking about the first time they heard Otis Redding.

I don't even know what the show was called, but I need to find it again and see the whole thing. It was pretty amazing.

Anyone else catch it? Was it playing on your PBS station?

Ertegun: Well, I inhaled.

It was part of the "American Masters" series; I tuned into it late as well but will most definitely be recording any replay of it in its entirety.

Also you can go here for more info and to see when it is airing in your area.

Damn. I gotta start watching more PBS.

For Atlanta, it's airing again on Sunday night late and on Monday evening.

Also, May 11th, Austin City Limits has the Pixies.

I need to set the old DVR.

Figures.
I've seen a few of these and every single one has been amazing: Leonard Bernstein, Lucille Ball, Annie Liebovitz, Hank Williams, Gene Kelley. Looking at the list, there are a LOT more that I need so see. So great. Thanks.

I caught most of it, really interesting stuff.

That story about him catching a cab to the jazz clubs in Harlem when he was in 7th grade was wild.
