I just read this review of Dalek on tiny mix tapes: http://www.tinymixtapes.com/musicreviews/d/dalek.htm

This sounds like something I might like, and was wondering if anyone here has heard this album and has any opinions on it.

edit: wrong author.

I interpolated the names of the Kennedy and Johnson biographers.

i'm kinda back and forth on these guys, very dark/abrasive indie hip-hop, though i'm sure there'll be someone who loves them that will say they're neither of those. The production reminds me of El-P's, but then i don't really go for either of them so take that for what you will.

I'm sure chase will have far more interesting and salient points on these guys though.

I really love what I've heard, which has been precious little. I need to score some of their music.

the new album dint really do it for me. both the lp and ep before are great with some drab spots. "spiritual healing" “speak volumes” "forever close my eyes" etc are some of their best songs indicative of the trademark noisy apoclyptic sound

i think that they have probably the best live show that i've ever seen. they've got a lot more in common with my bloody valentine than el-p in my opinion.

some of these tracks seriously drag. no kick or fire. like the beat/rhythm/noise loop is so monotonous.

(maybe its me. and i don't like (as much) what i liked abt them before)

"distorted prose" is awesome tho.

hot cover mention tho, again

Image

anyway, i am outty.

Ok, so I'm definitely intrigued now, but should I get their new one, their old LP, or their EP?

I have From Filthy Tongues of Gods and Griots and their collaboration with Faust from last year (Der Respect, Alder) and both are very good. I saw them live a few years ago, and the MBV comparison is very correct. Lots of white noise along with the beats and MC'ing. Definitely want to hear the new one.

the ep (negro necro nekros or something) is more in the dj shadow vein in terms of atmosphere, and they get progressively noisier as they go one, whatever that means to you. i like absence better than from filthy tongues.

I haven't heard the new record yet, but think "filthy tongue" is one of my all time fave hip hop records.

he and James Murphy (whats his face from LCD soundsystem)
produced my high school boyfriend's album (which, never came out bc they were lazy college kids) in New Jersey back in the day.

they were HILARIOUS and all the boys talkled about for months.
