... but do you have to be crazy to try to catch U2 on this tour? My wife really wants to go, but both Seattle shows are sold out and tickets are on EBay and Craigs List for $200 a pop minimum.

I have no doubt that someone will buy these tickets at outrageous prices, and as much as I love my wife (enough to endure 3 hours of Bono ego explosion over medicore music), I can't begin to justify spending at least $400 on one show- that number is before dinner, beers, parking etc.

Who are these people going to these shows? I love a few U2 records, but good god...

Why? Since when is it wrong to make money? The price of tickets is largely going to depend on what the demand is of the people who are willing to shell out the bucks.

Its called a free market.

And, it has nothing to do with his charity work.

Sometimes the rampant communism of you people makes me want to fucking puke.

Why do you hate America?

Agreed, but my wife has endured lots of stuff for me like a champ, so I kind of feel obligated, but even she ran away from this when she saw the prices.

This is a sore spot for me in this aspect:

I don't mind what bands charge on their tours, it's the ticket companies that buy up all of the good seats and charges insane prices. I know it's a free market but it still sucks.

Say you're huge U2 fan and you get to a ticketmaste super early and are 2nd in line. A local ticket company, Empire tickets, has early access to tickets. They buy up 3-4 rows of seats in the first 10 rows. You have waited as a huge fan for this and how are you re-paid? You don't even get in the first 10 rows for all of your effort. sucks.

Another reason club shows are better.

Take it out back to the shed, o'reilly. i don't have a problem with them bilking suckers, but i don't want to hear him complaining about anyone's poverty when he's shilling as fast as he can.

face value on the tickets ranges from $50-$150 before service charges anyway. that's ri-goddamned-diculous for a band as banal and ubiquitous as u2 anyway.

Concert sales are way down because of overpriced tickets across the board. Which means in general, the free market is not holding up under this price gouging. Hopefully they'll smarten up and lower the prices.

It seems in poor taste, especially for a band like U2 who supposedly cares about the little guy, when the majority of kids and people who make less than $25k a year can't afford to see them.

These days they have a lot of the same elements which made John Kerry a bit suspect in people's eyes. They say a lot of the right things, are reasonably better than many of the alternatives out there, but come off a bit out of touch with the regular people they are trying to relate to.

There are shows that I've spent $50-$150 dollars to see... and that I would pay $50-$150 to see again. If you're a big enough U2 fan and don't have tickets already, you'll pay $200+ to see them. Heck, if they were decent seats, and I were going with/taking someone special, I'd sell some blood for some $100 a pop tickets for this show...

I would pay $200+ if they would do something cool, like bring a fifty foot lemon or call the president or some shit like that.

Though I think U2 are indeed a good band, no way in hell would I pay that. Wouldn't pay more than 50 bucks to see anyone, ever. The going rate for supahstahs may top a hundred bucks, but I don't need to see anyone howl out their tunes for that kinda money.
