OK...I'm sure we're doing one this year so I thought we'd start a nice little thread and begin discussing how we want to set it up. You know, the categories, the rules, nominating a commissioner, etc. Let's discuss all that in here.

The first thing we really need to set up is the commissioner situation. Does anybody want to nominate themselves? We'll give people the chance to nominate themselves and then we can all vote on who we want as commissioner. From there, we'll deal with the rules and categories, etc.

Also, feel free to post any ideas that you may have on how to make the league(s) more fun or exciting.

Personally, I'd nominate myself as commissioner, and if nobody else does, I can probably do it, but seeing as many people don't agree with my tactics, I won't.

:D And a sigh of relief amongst the Obnerites.

I am in... Won't volunteer to torture you by suggesting I be commissioner.

As to rules-changes, maybe make categories where one or two occurences a week could win somebody the category, e.g. stolen bases, where one team might get two, the other zero, worth one point. Maybe weigh obp more than avg, too -- two points to one --, and wins over losses -- one point to negative one.

mmmkay, that's all I have for now.

i appreciate the sentiment but i'm not really into baseball. i'd just draft ken griffey jr and languish at the bottom of the league like i used to do.

I'm in. What did you guys do last year, H2H?

My main league is roto scoring, so having this H2H would be cool, but either way is fine with me. I'm also a fan of using traditional 5x5 scoring categories (runs, HRs, RBI, AVG, SB, Wins, Saves, Ks, ERA, and WHIP). Substituting OBP for AVG, as well as SLG for HRs is cool, too.

One issue that's going on that could affect whether or not there will be free league this year is whether MLB will license their stuff to sites like Yahoo, et al. Right now, MLB is saying they won't license, which means there will be fewer sites having fantasy baseball, and maybe none offerring it for free.
read about it:

We usually do head to head, and don't see why we would do it any differently this year. Besides, H2H is so much more fun.

Thanks for letting us know about the licensing issue. That's definitely something we should keep an eye on.

I'm in...commish if need be, but I could take it or leave it...

I like the 5x5 categories, but we could holds as a stat as well, just because I've never played in a league that had them - and we could use OBP as the offensive "balancer"...
I'm against some categories being more heavily weighted than others...
Live Draft... Skill positions +2 utility, basic Yahoo league rules work for me - no "money" games...
And I'd rather play in a league that is 12 people or less than a larger league...

I'm a being a bit of a primadonna, ain't I?

I totally agree with this category. It gives the owners a reason to draft top set up guys, and not only closers.

The OBP stat is another I'd like to see implemented.

Nothing wrong with knowing what works for you...

I like holds.

For starting rosters, especially if it's a 12 team or less league, I like using real-life rosters, minus the extra catcher. That means skill infielder positions, a middle infielder (2b or ss), corner infielder (1b or 3b), 5 OF, and 9 P. Otherwise you have a ton of talent being wasted in the FA pool.

I prefer the trad. 9 man lineup with 2 utility guys...and I prefer that everyone has a bench too (something like 6 spots) and 2 DL spots, so the "talent" left out there won't be overwhelming...

i'm in, of course. i could do the commish thing, but don't mind chris doing it since i commish another league too.

yeah, i like the idea of a utility man because i always get stuck with two guys absolutely raking at the same position. i'll also campaign for holds for the reasons stated above (nobody'll take mid-relief if it's not in). and last year we only had avg. how about obp or slg this year too?

I'm in....

I'd need to look at the default catagories again, but definitely having enough pitching catagories to ensure everyone uses their pitchers regularly is something I'm for... a couple of years ago, by not using your pitchers (which kept era, whip, and walks down low) gave you nearly enough catagories to take the pitching portion weekly. Hated the idea of not participating was a good thing...

Appreciate the thread to talk stuff out before implementing.
