Just got the mix. This thing rocks like a really rockin' thing with a side order of RAWK! Many thanks.

BTW - I just found out that Spencer P. Jones was a founding member of the Johnnys, an Aussie cowpunk band from back in the '80s. I had their North American debut on vinyl or cassette at one time... don't know what happened to that thang. They were pretty good. Plus the dude started the Beasts of Bourbon as well. I never bought their The Axeman's Jazz disc, but I do have a Big Time sampler (The Big Time Syndrome*) with their version of "Psycho" on it. Anyway, you may have already known all this, but I'm getting more impressed by Spencer P. Jones the more I learn about him.

*(That Big Time sampler includes Love And Rockets, Redd Kross, The Dream Syndicate, The Pastels, The Jazz Butcher, The Exploding White Mice, The Lucy Show, Love Tractor, Alex Chilton, Dumptruck, Painters And Dockers, and the Spikes. Damn sweet, in other words)

The Johnnys: "Highlights Of A Dangerous Life"

I've got the vinyl, plus all the singles they released on Mushroom, which is such a trip because the guys been sitting in my library, unbeknownst to me, for close to 20 years. I've picked up three of four known solo albums, and fourth is supposedly en route to me.

I've got that Big Time sampler as well. For a while, I bought everything on Big Time and New Rose that I could lay my hands on. Great great stuff. I may have to do my own Big Time sampler.

SPJ was also in an outfit called "Hell To Pay" which had a few eps (also en route courtesy of eBay).

Had you heard the Coyote Shivers track before?

I've never heard that Coyote Shivers track. Where's it from?

One of the standouts (on first listen) is the band P-76. The song "Heading Straight For The Sun" kinda reminds me of Died Pretty. Very nice.

I've got Challenger 7's Payola album and never really listen to it, but the inclusion of "Rock And Roll Sound" on this mix is gonna make me take a second look at that band.

I really like the Three Johns track. It's funny, back in the '80s I thought they sounded so disposable and goofy, but time has really been kind to them.

Also like tracks by Zeitgeist (this isn't the same band once known as the Reivers, is it?), the Chevelles, Superscope, and (natch) the Godfathers. And the Mad Daddys' version of "Cat Scratch Fever" is a total hoot.

Gots to listen more closely.

Nope, it's a different Zeitgeist. This band is from Ireland, I've got two singles on Paul Weller's "Jamming" label.

The Coyote Shivers track is from "Half a Rock and Roll Record" and also from "Gives It To You Twice", thanks for the heads up on him.

"R&R Sound" is definitely the highlight of the Challenger 7 disc, but the rest ain't so bad.

Glad you're diggin' it.

It's about 90% done, I keep getting dissatisfied with the last few tracks, so it's still trial and error. You'll get a copy of "Do Unto Others" along with it.
