Let's try this out. Post your U.S. representative and if you feel the need, give your general opinion on them.

Sherrod Brown (D - OH)
http://www.ontheissues.org/OH/Sherrod_Brown.htm

He's one of the few politicians out there where I can honestly say I agree with him on almost everything. Along with Kucinich and Sanders, Brown is probably one of the most liberal individuals in the House of Representatives.

Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD)
http://www.issues2002.org/House/Wayne_Gilchrest.htm

I like Wayne. Very down to earth guy. Former American Government teacher for high school students. I've met him a couple times in H.S., and after he spoke he would hang out and just talk with the students in a one-to-one manner, usually in a plaid shirt and khakis.

Big change from Tom "Mr. NBA" McMillan, who always was pimped out and followed by a throng of handlers.

Wayne is a Republican, and I don't agree with him across the board, but he's not a knee-jerk lackey who votes solely along party lines. I'm also willing to admit that I'm willing to overlook the votes that I disagree with because I find him to be a good, respectable guy.

I'm new to town, so I'm just learning the politicos. All I can say is that I like his voting record. I'll try and meet him soon.

Jeff Fortenberry, Republican, Nebraska

He was just elected in November to replace Doug Bereuter, a moderate to liberal Republican who had basically held the office all my life. He was awesome, and Fortenberry sucks. Fortenberry is an outsider who moved to Lincoln served in the city council for a bit, and received the backing of some out of state conservative groups like Club for Growth, who really didn't like Bereuter or his hand picked successor Curt Bromm, who presided over the Unicameral.

Has been there forever, and her voting record is pretty moderate but also representative of a Catholic Democrat. Apparently was also a driving force behind the new World War II memorial.

I'm new in town, too, so I don't too much else besides this stuff. Most of it looks pretty good though, including a personal favorite of mine:

Rated 23% by the Christian Coalition: an anti-family voting record. (Dec 2003) (both)

He was a major figure in the Civil Rights movement. He's run unopposed in this district for a long time. Nobody seems to mind that, myself included.

Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) first termer, replacing Mac Collins who got beat up in an ill advised Senate run.

Uhhhhh, well as far as I know he doesn't beat his wife........Seriously, I don't live in the most Conservative district in Georgia, but I might live in the most Republican. I mean, these people basically run unopposed, soooooo. Like I said, I don't think he beats his wife.

To be fair, Mac Collins wasn't too bad. The guy knew a crap load about tax code and worked to improve it. He also didn't make an ass of himself.

heres the canadian version. we call them mp's.

ethel blondin-andrew, liberal, western arctic

shes about as stupid a politician can get. she only won by 70 or so votes because she's doing such a shitty job, and then bitches that she would have won by more if members of the territorial legislature hadnt campaigned against her (which is absolutely ridiculous). if not for the fact that she's aboriginal she wouldnt have gotten elected, because the other candidate carried all the big centres, and she cleaned up on the smaller towns with the bigger aboriginal population, who always identify with the native candidate. this after she voted for gun control, something that the constituancy is overwhelmingly opposed to. i dont get it. yeah, i really, really dislike her.

One of my fave MoCs. He's just cool.

Mine is Westmoreland as well, but Phil Gingrey an anti-abortion Doctor and all around bag of dicks represents the home where I be paying them taxes.

The good news as well is that GA is rep'd by Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isaakson in the Senate, two indistinguished Congressman who, even as Republicans managed to lose some of Georgia's vaunted military budget. That never happened with Richard Russell, Sam Nunn or Max Cleland. Vote Republican, if we're all gonna get screwed anyway, might as well be with the one that brung ya.

Do you know of any good Russell bios? In a way, from what I know of him he reminds me of Jefferson on a different level. Lots of strong points, but god do his weaknesses cause a few problems.

I've looked and looked, but the best/main one looks boring and is usually listed for around $35. I should call the UGA Library and get a good one reccomended, it is after all named after him, as was my freshman dorm.

He was a giant in GA, and his legacy is such that even Saxby claims fealty to him (probably on the unfounded thought that Russell would be a Republican these days)

He was a mentor to Johnson, but like most men of his age had some serious issues regarding race, and the turning a blind eye to the attrocities associated with that issue.

Talmadge may have been worse, up until 1980, when he was defeated by Reagan-ite Mack Mattingly, he called for the seperation of races.

Mike Michaud (D-ME)

Very nice man, lifetime union dude but amiable enough to win over many conservatives. Lousy public speaker, trying to overcome his lifelong central Maine marbles-in-mouth speech-patterns and only partly succeeding. Papermill worker for more than a quarter century, but also a state representative during much of that time. Far more experienced and smart than he seems because he comes across like a grey-haired little boy and is pretty much free of bullshit and pretension. Not the best politican you'll ever find, but certainly one of the best men you'd want to be one.

In a better world, people like Mike who don't lust for power and who don't lie to you would be more prevalent in politics, but it's not a better world.

And an asshole. Not as much of an asshole as John Tierney, who pushed me out of his way one time while I was talking to someone at a table in front of him, and apparently blocking his view. (Not hard for me to do, but where I'm from, people say excuse me, so JT, Rest in Piss)

My rep Degette (D-CO) she seems to be pretty liberal. I really don't pay attention much to the state politics here unless it involves the environment or higher education.

F James Sensenbrenner (R - WI)... But, seriously, f 'im.

I ended up in his district after the 2000 census; previously, I had been in Gerald Kleczka's. But, with the shift in pop to the western and southern parts of the country -- though, plenty still live in Milwaukee proper, east Tosa and Stallis, and Glendale and Shorewood --, the Legislature joined Tom Barrett's 5th District to Kleczka's 4th, by and large, with the former's announcement he'd leave the House to run for Gov. and latter's retirement from politics making it an easy shift (plus, a Dem. would still hold the one seat for the city, anyway). So, now it's the City of Milw that is the 5th district, rep'd by a Dem (Gwen Moore, first black, second woman, to serve in Wisco's delegation), while Sensenbrenner poached the westside of the county and Bayside and Paul Ryan (a real comer in the Republican side of the aisle) got a bit of Franklin and/or Oak Creek.

Sucks to be me, then. I don't even get to be rep'd by the rising-star of the GOP's state delegation; I get the retread, lame-brain, former chair of the House Science Committee.

(And, a prediction: when Herb Kohl retires from his Senate seat, I expect a brutal, but scintillating, fight in the general election to between out-lesbian Tammy Baldwin, doyen of Madison liberalism, and (too) young (to be) establishmentarian Paul Ryan, son of blinkered populism and racism from Janesville, to fill that seat.)

he's pretty much a douche bag. very conservative with a few interesting liberalish outswings like being largely in favor of more healthcare through federal bills.
