Shiv, horror movie suggestions?

I've been on this huge horror kick lately, and I've never really been into the genre before. From what I've gathered, you're the expert 'round these parts.

I'm down for anything, really. But I especially like gore and zombie movies.

The Descent
Audition (first 45 minutes are a bit boring but then it goes haywire)
Wilderness (not really horror too much, but it's pretty gory)
Memories Of Murder (more along the lines of Zodiac but done really well)
Creep (nothing new as far as ideas go but it was, er, creepy)
Jigoku
Cannibal Holocaust (really dumb but totally over the top)
Feast (kinda fun)
Slither (see above)
Tombs Of The Blind Dead
Masters Of Horror series (best episodes were Cigarette Burns, Imprint & Pelts)
Calvaire (like a french High Tension)
Dead Man's Shoes (more revenge movie than horror)
The Host
Junk (japanese zombie movie, i've had this for awhile but haven't watched it yet. it's supposed to be good)
Street Trash (fucking awesome 80's movie in the vein of Re-Animator)
Near Dark (80's vampire movie)
Session 9
28 Weeks Later (good sequel)

I'm sure there's stuff I'm forgetting.

Sweet. The only two out of those I've seen are the Descent and 28 Weeks Later. More than enough to work with. Thanks!

heh...duh. i was thinking it was english for some reason. high tension was good except for the last 10 minutes. really stupid plot twist. the director did a good job on the hills have eyes though.

oh and if you liked the descent, see dog soldiers. good werewolf flick by the same director.

i like your list there. i would add dead alive and bad taste. maybe cabin fever for something more modern. also, between me and you, don't you agree that the descent is kinda horseshit? i mean i enjoyed watching it for the most part, but i have never been so dissastisfied at the end of anything ever.

agreed. Dog Soldiers was really well done. I was completely taken with how good the werewolves looked. I wish there were more werewolf franchises getting made. I forget who's doing it, but isn't there a remake of theWolfman coming out?

I disagree. I thought that movie was one of the best horror flicks I've seen in 10 years. Granted I haven't watched many but I still thought it was great as far as these things go.

I know there was a change in the ending for the US release but I'm not sure what. I liked the ambiguity of the ending and the utter despair of it.

I never saw the original Hills Have Eyes but the remake had a couple of geniunely disturbing moments in it that left me in disbelief.

I've been told I should check out the original film that The Grudge was based on.

I really enjoyed Descent. It wasn't annoying long, and the claustrophobic feeling was completely translated.

I want to see 1408.

Really good call on Memories of Murder. Such an interesting film in many ways. Great list!

i'm watching this movie called cannibal. it's supposedly based on the true story of armin meiwes but it just seems like sprockets meets brokeback mountain meets a not so good cannibal holocaust. :nono:

YES!!!! i was about to mention this. on my netflix queue: oldboy, the eye (the remake with jessica alba is going to be fucking LAME)

rick derris - DEFINITELY check out the original grudge. the grudge has nothing on Ju-On and Ju-On 2.

audition is one of my favorite movies. i like asian horror flicks more than the shit horror movies that are coming out these days. (and hollywood REALLY needs to stop re-making asian horror flicks). the last non-asian horror flick i actually liked was the re-make of the hills have eyes.

jon, what was that japanese trilogy you were telling me about? lady vengeance?
