Don't know if anyone else caught this on pitchfork, but iron & wine and calexico are doing an ep together, and the same goes for prefuse 73 and the books. And, let's not forget 13 & God coming out April 26 (themselves and the notwist). Looking forward to all of these.

Speaking of collaborations, I have been thinking lately about how there is so much collaboration in hip hop but not nearly as much in rock, but I can't think of any reason why this would be so. Rock doesn't seem to be any less conducive to collaborations, in my opinion. Thoughts?

there's no truth to this is there?

if we're talking fantasy collabs, Ghostface and Freeway would wreck it.

From Hiphopsite:

...In other Doom news, insiders have whispered that the MF Doom Vs. Ghostface Killah project is slowly becoming a reality. The two have been in the studio together recording songs for the project, as well as Doom producing tracks for Ghostface's next Def Jam LP, and possibly Raekwon's next album (tentatively titled Cuban Links 2).

I would love to hear an Immortal Technique and Prefuse 73 collaboration.

My thought would be that they're called "side projects" in rock.

I don't know much, but doesn't this have to do with hiphop consist of individual artists, while rock is made up of mostly bands? It's easy for two individual artists to collaborate together, but hard for two 4-member bands to work as a group. Instead, they disband occasionally and create side projects.

Again, I know nothing about these things.
