Have any of you seen the ads created for this? Absolutely fantastic -- some of 'em left me with goosebumps.

http://www.montanameth.org/View_Ads/index.php

Some of 'em have earned advertising awards at the Cannes Festival.

I'm a former meth user. Luckily, I get bored with drugs easily and left it after my curiosity was satiated. Though, one of my best friends got hooked. While he didn't look like any of those kids, it took him awhile to kick that monkey off his back.

So you are "that percentage" that's like " Oh yeah just cuz they say so, don't mean it."

Try it 3 times and report back.

Sometimes a Public Message is just a wake up call for WTF are you doing. And if anyone is gonna give me shit about it I don't care. And I got no beef with usage. Use it all. They can legalize it and you can eat all the drugs in the world you/he/she wants, but there aint nothing goddam wrong when the big Govuhment says, "It will fuck you up!," because for some it will, and don't lie about that.

My sister-in-law is seriously eaten up by this drug. It is a plague on the country. I didn't click on the link, but it can't be any worse that the "whatthefuxup" anti-smoking campaign going on now.

Yeah, no doubt. These are well-done. Any info on the agency or directors of the project?

i can't believe multiple people in this thread have told me to do some meth. i thought you guys cared about me!

anyway, i am not really into hillbilly drugs that much, so i doubt it is going to happen. i still think the ads are a little overboard. i remember ads like this about plenty of drugs that i am sure many of us have used recreationally without becoming junkies.

nevermind all that. what is really sad is that if the ad campaign works, there will be no more jobs in montana.

Ha. LooGAR and I used to regularly have a discussion of "drugs that you are supposed to become instantly addicted to thus ruining your entire life" that we had, in fact taken with aplomb.

these are chilling ads no doubt, but i'm from the camp that believes they do more harm than good. People that already think a certain a way won't try it and maybe this will sway a few that are on the fence leaning towards not doing it. But i think a certain group will see this and want to prove it wrong or some that have already tried it and didn't have their life destroyed will find it hilarious encouragement to do more.

that's what i am saying. if you know one dude who can handle his meth, he invalidates the entire campaign. i was a kid in the 80s and i believed everything nancy regan said. as soon as i found out that there are people who can smoke pot recreationally without turning into full on horse heads, i figured everything else that creepy lady was selling was bullshit too.

If you smoke crack once, your life is over.

While I understand yr jest, I think the point is that it could potentially happen. I don't think that its a definite, but there certainly are cases in which it could rise to the level of horrid consequences. Also, how do you know how your body is going to react to a certain drug? How do you know you aren't predisposed to be an addict? Scare tactics? Sure. But the whole thing is to hopefully wake up even one kid from doing it.

No, I disagree. One person does not invalidate it. Does one smoker not getting lung cancer invalidate that smoking could lead to it? No. The factors are there.

Pot and meth are two different animals. Also, you've said multiple times that you wouldn't do the drug. Why? If there is no harm and you don't think you'd get hooked then why wouldn't you? Probably because you have enough common sense not to. Obviously then, the commercials aren't targeting you.

It doesn't truly invalidate the ads, but it invalidates them in the eyes of the people they're supposed to sway. I'd bet that a large number of meth-using kids could watch those ads and say, "My life is nowhere near that fucked up. Those ads are bullshit." It's just like all of those exaggerated anti-pot ads that potheads love to laugh at (or at least I did).

The difference, of course, is that meth really can and does drive people to do this sort of stuff. I just share the doubts of some of the other people on here that this sort of ad campaign is really going to reach many people whose lives might potentially be destroyed by meth.

As cool little 30-second shorts just taken on their own merits, though, they are really well done.

Obviously, the guy in the muppet suit has ended childhood smoking, though.

When I think of meth, I think of the Wendy's commercial with all the people standing around kicking trees.

What else are you going to do though? How do you target the 14-year old who hasnt started taking meth yet? Thats the demographic, btw. Obviously you arent going to convince the people already hooked on it to quit. Methemphetamine is a different kind of drug. You can have semi-functioning potheads, coke addicts, alcoholics, etc. But you absolutely cannot be a meth addict and be any kind of reasonably normal person.
