Yes, yes, I'm a Harry Potter fan. My coworker's boyfriend works for Variety and is taking me as a guest. Yay!

In my case, because my friend who works for Variety is a movie reviewer. He goes to a shitload of movies every year and invited me. It's a special preview.

Dude, watching "Harry Potter" in an Imax theatre totally bumped this film several notches up. Even more notches? The fact that the last 20-30 minutes were in 3-D!!

If you read the book, you know what happens...still made for very cool story. I'd definitely see it again.

I liked it... but I still prefered movies 1, 2, and 4 more.

The trouble with movies is that they have to fit within certain time frames... so a lot of important things from the book really had to get glossed over or eliminated entirely. Which was true of all of the movies... but this one was a LOT more noticeable. And some of the outright changes were pretty annoying.

I also wonder how easy it was to follow for those who haven't read the book.

If you think about it, "Order of the Phoenix" was one of the longest books. I think people start to lose interest in a film that's 2+ hours long, so you have to be selective with how much can be squeezed into a film.

understandable if you don't have a big interest in fantasy.

I don't think it's even that. I'm sure if I actually sat down and read one of the books, I'd find it fascinating. I just have this slight aversion to "bandwagon" mentality, ala John Grisham novels. EVERYONE is reading it, so it MUST be good.

I'm sure the books are great, I've seen the movies before, but it's just not something I get too excited about, i.e. I'm not counting down the days til the movie or next book comes out. For those of us who are excited about it though, that's wonderful. I'll be counting down the days til Project Runway comes on again. ;)

Ha-- yeah. I was talking to a friend at work today who hasn't read the books or seen the movies. I said something to the effect of, "Read them!" and she said, "I'm sure they're good since they're so popular."

Drove me up a wall.

"luckily" i haven't read the books. i liked 1 & 2, but those were sorta kids films. i loved #3 in story and its darker, more adult, mood. #4 just seemed poorly edited or something because it was a let-down from movie #3.

hoping to see this the following weekend. :)

It's the shortest of the Harry movie's so far. Probably made under budget.

I expect something like this to be epic and especially after the last two. Big disappointment for me.
