the Phillies lead the National League in runs scored and are dead last in ERA

Conversely, the Padres lead in ERA but are last in AVG (11th in runs scored). Gotta figure respective ballparks figure largely into this scenario.

for sure, i'd like to see what the home/away stats are.

San Diego: 25-19 Home/24-18 Away
Philadelphia: 22-21 Home/22-23 Away

i meant runs scored and given up.

Philadelphia:
Runs/game Home: 5.19 - Runs/game Away: 5.11
Runs Allowed/game Home: 5.51 - Runs Allowed/game Away: 5.05
Home Games: 43 Away Games: 44

San Diego:
Runs/game Home: 3.93 - Runs/game Away: 4.69
Runs Allowed/game Home: 3.14 - Runs Allowed/game Away: 3.69
Home Games: 44 Away Games: 42

These stats don't include today's games.

Seriously. It's good to see Phillies players do something nice like that. It might counter-balance the nastiness of the Phillies fans somewhat.

http://www.baseball-reference.com. They have more stats then even I know what to do with (and I used to dabble in sabermetrics). They used to just update at the end of the season, but this year for the first time they update everything as the season progresses.

Now that we're at the All-Star Break, let's play my least-favorite game of them all: LET'S SEE WHO THE TEXAS RANGERS HAVE GIVEN AWAY IN EXCHANGE FOR STEAMING TURDS...

NL RBI LEADER AND NL ALL-STAR CARLOS LEE
MLB ERA LEADER AND NL ALL-STAR CHRIS YOUNG
MLB SAVES LEADER AND NL ALL-STAR FRANCISCO CORDERO
NL ALL-STAR ALFONSO SORIANO
AL ALL-STAR IVAN "PUDGE" RODRIGUEZ

Of course, I could also include former Ranger A-HOLE, because he leads the majors in HR and RBI, but fuck that douchebag.

I wouldn't go that far chief. There are some pretty dumb franchises out there and EVERYONE makes dumb moves. I could argue that the biggest mistake they made on that list is getting rid of Pudge.

Pretty much all of those moves above happened due to the A-Rod signing of which I'll grant you was one of the worst moves ever.

They couldn't keep anyone because the above people wanted max contracts.

Soriano, while he has a GREAT bat, is also one of the worst fielders, if not the worst fielder in the league. Not worth a max contract if you ask me.

Also, this was my reaction this morning upon hearing that Vlad beat this guy. No clue who this is and I can't believe how little I care about the All-Star game.

Baseball is dying and it's only getting worse.

huge prospect in blue jays organization for a few years, but plagued by chronic injuries. he finally seems to be getting it done this year. at some point you may want to concede that it's your interest in baseball that's dying and not necessarily the sport.

Yeah I wouldn't count on me conceding. Do I think that baseball will ever go away or even reach the point where it's interest level in the States is at NHL interest level. Hell no.

But let's be honest. Baseball just doesn't capture the imagination of the nation like it once did. 50-60 years ago there were songs on the pop charts about "Jumpin Joe Dimaggio" and "Say Hey Willie Mays" and these players were treated like gods.

Am I jaded about today's game? Yes. I am no longer a kid and after being hit with one thing after another such as free agency, strikes, bloated contracts, arrogant players, steroids, etc I think lots of baseball fans feel like the game has lost it's luster as well.

The real concern is that from everything I've read most kids just aren't participating in baseball anymore. Football is king and I think Basketball is probably second after that with baseball a distant third. That wasn't always the case.

Like I said, it's not going away but it'll never be what it was for the better part of the 20th century.

That being said, LET'S GO BRAVES! (sings Beat the Mets to the Met's Meet the Mets tune)

I'm not so sure he went far enough. I would remove "one of" from his post, and take the "s" off of "franchises."

Glavine got 300 tonight.

But about records that'll never be broken, Cy Young 511 wins.

I know they pitched more often back then but still.

Yeah, 300 is still impressive though. 511 is just, well legendary. Its one record that I would put money on never being broken.

Cy Young pitched in 908 games.
Tom Glavine in 635+ a few.

Impressive to think that Glavine has won nearly 50% of his games.

I used to hate Tom Glavine when I was growing up. But I've developed an appreciation and respect for him based on the fact that he's won 300 games using mostly guile and deception.

Good show Tom, good show.

He's over 100 games over .500 which is incredible.

Also my favorite Atlanta Brave ever.

Congrats Tommy.

The one record I have trouble ever seeing broken is Ripkin's consecutive games played. That is just insane.

That, Cy Young's Wins record, and Hack Wilson's 190 RBI in a season. Those are the three that I can't see being broken (at least any time soon).

oh, i could definitely see wilson's RBI record being broken.

records that will never be broken (career): cy young's 511 wins, walter johnson's 110 shutouts, and ripken's 2632 consecutive games. also, there is absolutely no way any new pitcher gets within the top-100 of complete games. clemens and maddox are the only active pitchers with more than 100 and they're way back in the top-300s.

and i doubt dimaggio's 56-game hitting streak is ever beaten.

Good call on that one.

As for Hack Wilson's 191 RBI, only 2 guys in the last 30 years have gotten within 26 RBI of it, and one of them is arguably the greatest right handed hitter of the last 60 years (Manny Ramirez). It could possibly be beaten, but I just don't think it will. I think the best we'll see is around 165-170.

You guys think Glavine will be the last 300 game winner? I think that there is a damn good chance of that.

What's Randy at, 284? I'm not sure he's got 16 wins in him at this point.

I don't. But he will be the last 300 game winner (provided Randy doesn't get there) for at least 20-30 years.

They said back in the day that Early Wynn would be the last one to get it. This was in 1963. Since then there have been 9 more additions to the club (including Glavine). Someone will do it, just not for a while.
