I just... I can't... why do these people get a designation? Why do they get to be a defined segment of society? Are there that many of them? It's the same ol Scientology argument.

I don't now nor have I ever known any furries, but from the looks of the "CSI" episode (yes, I'm basing my knowledge on a tv show... Grissom wouldn't steer me wrong), I think they do everything that you or I would do, just while wearing an animal costume. It's a fetish.... a really bizarre fetish.

Oh, and they "get" to be a defined member of society because they're still human. Although I doubt they really want to be. Just because you dress like Rocky Raccoon at night doesn't mean that you're not one hell of a teacher/musician/businessperson/clergyperson during the day.

What I meant is, why do we have a name for them if it's not many people... the obvious answer being that it IS a lot of people. And there's where I have the disconnect... I can't imagine a lot of people being into this.

I can't imagine anyone being into this. I like to play shrink and try to figure out where fetishes come from. For instance, a guy that I used to know had a scat fetish which began when an older girl pinned him down in grade school and crapped on him. It horrified him, yet something about the female overpowering him turned him on. And it stuck. So, I wonder what happened to these furries as kids/young adults to make them so bonerfied about animal costumes.
