Ya know, I put off getting their second album Antics for a long, long time thinking they'd never be able to live up to all that hype and buzz caused by their debut's near perfect mix of 80's guitar rock. But a couple weeks or so ago I broke down and ordered it with a few others after hearing the totally irresistable "Evil" on the radio in my car. I was driving around with a big smile and knew I needed to get the latest. And man, I'm really liking Antics a lot. "Evil" still rules and has been stuck in my head for what seems like weeks, even if it is MTV-approved. But the album is full of standout tracks that really blossom after you give it a couple spins to get in the groove. First rate. Woulda shoulda been high on my top 10 if I'da had it at the time. Way recommended if you've been straddling the fence like me. Classy band, maybe the classiest from that whole New York scene in the last few years, at least for me.

Now, if they would just hurry up with that new British Sea Power album, I'll be one happy go lucky post punk loving music junkie!

The long way back

BTW, feel free to thread crap all over my Interpol love if you think they suck. Confrontation is fun. But give me a reason...or at least an example of their suckiness. Or feel free to confess your own Interpol love - I know some of you feel it :)

evil has the most bizarrely hilarious music video since ycontrol by the yeah yeah yeahs. i don't like music videos, and i don't know how i came to be watching it but it's like a mutilated puppet with an abnormally large mouth lip-synching to the entire song with some puppet dancing at the end.

it's so sad that a song as unbelievable as "Evil" has such a shitty video.

But that song and "Public Pervert" are probably (other than "Roland") the two best songs they've done so far. solid follow-up.

I really like "Evil" and "Public Pervert," but this album just hasn't stuck for me. I was listening to it the other day, and realized that is doesn't quite do it for me. I definitely like Bright Lights more.

Not even through miles and miles of cyber fuck space will this dream come true. But at least he's starting to come out of his shell and look for that first real fuck...

Davey, can I hang out with you? I think we'd get along wonderfully...music-wise that is.

I totally felt the same way about this album. Loved the first one but totally had no desire to listen to this one when it first came out... then suddenly, about a month ago, I heard it again and it totally rocked my world.

It initially sounds a lot less dark and somewhat more 'radio rock' like... but once you get to know the songs a bit you realize the depth to them, not to mention how damn catchy they are.

Me likey.
:)

Davey probably shows up at all the best parties fashionably late. He's just cool that way.

Oh, and two offers in one thread, pretty impressive old man. Me, I'm just gonna hang around for your cast offs, well, the female ones at least.

Yeah, I really dig that album too although I've been taking up my time listening to Interpol bootleg recordings lately. Get the best of both albums that way.

jc

You crusty old codger, are you trying to imply that Dylan is better than Interpol? What the heck? Are you daft?

Hehehe, good idea. Have I shown you my Dylan vinyl lately? I do have on or two, ya know. Here's a few of the choicest ones :)

Still like that Interpol a lot. Pulled out Surfer Rosa after it was over and realized that I do miss some of that out of control unpredictability that the Pixies were drenched in, but that Interpol will not likely ever have. Dylan was pretty out of control sometimes too. But it's all good.

I love their first album, but really don't care for Antics.

Sampler? You can probably fit their entire catalogue onto one disc.

Drunk actually, but it was still a pretty good suggestion

I thought you and your vinyl were separated, or divorced, or.....

Actually I'm staying with my ex right now in NoCal so my vinyl and I are reunited. Unfortunately, most of my CDs are still in storage back in AZ (along with my stereo, so having the vinyl doesn't do me any good beyond taking a picture of it). Need to take some time off work and finish the move....

Never heard of The Anomoanon. Spill some more. But don't call me bubba, bubba.
