Ok. So I have been thinking. There are a handful of songs that are filled with some rather intense sarcasm. I was wondering what pops into the minds of you all when you think of songs that are full of it. It's sort of hard for me to explain. The best way for me to do it is to give you my #1 example:

Rejoice - Pedro the Lion

Discuss. Offer. Respond.

How about any of (just about) a million Mountain Goats songs?

Prime Examples: "Cubs In Five", "No Children", "First Few Desperate Hours", ect...

That Darnielle is a virtual (if not literal) fountain of sarcasm...

i was at a dance party at a bar and they played this song, and this gentleman decided to spend the entire song flipping off the DJ. he's a pretty hip guy so obviously this is a very serious and cool statement.

but what the fuck was his problem? i realize many people hate the sex pistols because they were sort of a put together thing.

and if i have to hear the clash vs. the sex pistols argument one more time i'm going to kill.

PS not meaning to hijack this, just want answers!

Don't worry about the hijack. My threads always go to some pretty unrelated topic anyway. I think it's because my topics are generally not good enough. *cries*

You're also the sidekick, not the star.

I mean, didn't Jerry van Dyke's character get a lot of shit on Coach?

Actually, I think it was meant as a sign of solidarity. You know, Sid Vicious flipped off his audience, the audience flipped him back off; the DJ plays Sid, you are the audience. It all gets a little abstract.

Or maybe he was just saying, "I think you're number one."

Am I the only one who was left totally flat by this album? For me it's one of those records that seemed to have lots of potential, but comes across really bland. It's kind of like the next Zodiac Mindwarp.

I wouldn't say you're the only one, Billz - the rest of the world somehow managed to resist their charms pretty thoroughly as well. It's just tuneful bubblegum punk with obnoxious lyrics. I'd say they're more comparable to the Toy Dolls than Zodiac Mindwarp, but all three bands share the same overwhelming love of irony and sarcasm.

I'm not really the guy to make a strong case for the Forgotten Rebels though. To my ears "Surfin' On Heroin" is their only worthwhile album, and later releases vary from dismal to unlistenable.

I can only hope that the person was trying to make some kind of punk rock statement, or the fact that it was a dance party and dude didn't feel like doing the pogo.

Otherwise- hipster jackassism.

I'm a big Forgotten Rebels fan. I would agree that although In Love with the System is not their best album it's not without its charms. I like 'This Ain't Hollywood' the best. I've seen them live 4 times; they're pretty damn good actually.
