My cousin's kid in Long Island stangely enough has to do a paper on issues facing the contemporary south.

Guess he figured his "Uncle Steve" lives in Atlanta, why not ask him?

What the hell do I know?

Anyway, if anyone has some ideas I'd appreciate it. He's a senior in HS and can definitely handle complex issues. Even if his "Uncle Steve" can't.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

It is an esoteric kinda way the same issue that has been following the South since the Civil War: Progress v. The Status Quo. Look at places like Mississippi and Alabama, and then look at GA and NC and Tennessee. While GA, et al, are not exactly bastions of progressivism, they have turned to economic developmemt for the betterment of all their citizens, while MS and Al remain mired in bizarre and backwards dominance by a select few.

The question is, especially in GA, will conservatives turn the clock back (Abortion, Med Mal, teaching or not teaching evolution)

A friend of mine once told me that one thing saved GA and doomed Al and that is the 1962 election in which GA elected Carl Sanders and AL elected George Wallace. Atlanta got Eastern's hub, at Birmigham expense, and the expense of AL.

I hope this makes ANY sense, I am very hungover and took some kind of alka seltzer nighttime in a vain attempt at going back to sleep.

An interesting idea

Since the period leading up to the Civil War this idea has been pervasive. Southern whites are racist against black people as a whole but like and respect the numerous african americans they know. Norhtern whites are for african americans as a whole but tend to disassociate themsleves from individual black people.

Also there is the obvious image thing!

Also in regards to the issue of education here is a reason many people perceive southern schools to be poor.

"In the 10 states with the highest SAT scores, an average of 8 percent of their high school students took the SAT, while 69 percent of students took the test in the 10 lowest scoring states.

Also, the lowest 10 states had twice as many high school juniors taking the test and 14 times as many SAT takers overall.

“The states with the highest SAT scores and lowest percentage of SAT takers tend to be testing mostly their best and brightest,” Marchant said. “There is more diversity in the ability of test takers that come from the lower scoring states. In the top scoring states, twice as many test takers come from the top 10 percent of their class. Test takers from lower scoring states represent a far greater range of both class rank and grade-point average.”

Since when is that a "problem"?

I say contemporary meth and contemporary welfare.

the Luther burger? that sounded in-fucking-sane. there's a place in williamsburg that serves a "chuck wagon", a deep-fried burger, but the burger on donuts is just mind boggling.
