Just wait... he'll partner up with PE again and then you'll remember you hate him.

BTW, have you heard the new Via Satellite? Solid... I have Grizzly Bear OD.

hahaha. true.

yeah, that new via satellite was interesting on first listen. singer sounds like thom yorke at times. nice and mellow.

btw odds, don't bother with the new autechre. IMO, it sounds like a fake. but if it is them, they're finished. absolute crap.

Yeh, I saw all the dialogue regarding it's authenticity... Only track 4 sounds like it could be them. Let's hope it is a fake. Regardless, I'll have to dig up Tri Repetae ++ today.

So what's the new "Autechre" like? In what way is it so bad?

I mean is it like way out in left field like Confield or is it just dull and simplistic or what?

it sounds like some kid that just discovered techno, wants to produce, picks up reason, grabs some thin drum samples, and attempts to write a tune, but has no fucking clue how to.

how does "hotel" compare to "18" and "play"? is it like another sequel or has he finally taken another tangent?

he covers all the bases once again [indie/techno/downtempo].

"i like it" sounds similar to massive attack, "very" is the most commercial tune, and is an uplifting techno trk, "forever" sounds like a mellow pulp tune.

i dig the more mellow things on here so far.

i've yet to get my hands on the 2nd bonus cd, which is all ambient tracks.

Listening to "Growing Up With GNR" on Launchcast right now. It sounds like a first take demo made up on the spot in someone's living room. I like it, but it's nothing that any one of six billion garage bands couldn't come up with in an afternoon.

Getting back to Moby, how did he get so popular in the late nineties? From what I've heard, most of his work is truly terrible.

Example: that awful single with Gwen Stefani and Animal Rights...is his "hit" album Play any good?

?

you would've already heard all of it in ads after it was released, also the answer is no.

So...is all the hating on Moby's Play and 18 because they were used for too many commercials, or because of Moby's gerneral anoying qualities or do you all actually hate the music that much?

Personally, I thought Play was quite unique and interesting when it came out, while remaining listenable. 18 was a bit more of the samish, but still decent.

i thought Play was a quite nice album, perfecting what he was honing on "everything is wrong". "18", imo, was just a "Play" carbon-copy. that turned me off -- wondering if "hotel" is just the 3rd in a trilogy or if it offers some unique style change (at least in part) as i used to expect from moby.

I thought "Play" was a great album when it came out. It definitely prompted me to see Moby in concert when he toured for that album. He left me thorougly impressed -- the guy had a very strong band to support him and made me respect his talent a bit more. That was a few years ago, I've not seen him since. Frankly, his music became boring to me.

this is the first moby album, i think, where he doesn't steal any samples from anywhere. this is 100% him. i rather like it. it's easy to listen to. won't break down houses, but nice mindlessness.
