yeahhhh, I don't even try to explain this place or the name anymore. It was getting to be too hard to make people understand what the hell Obner was.

no one has made coffee at work and i don't know the recipe

No streaking but it was very sore and almost painful to walk the other day. I pretty much attributed that to the fact I was stuck on a plane for 10+ hours, though, I did get up often to allow for blood circulation. I've been applying hot compresses to reduce the swelling and it looks like some of the purple tinge is going away. We'll see what the doc says tomorrow (thanks, Doc Jerkass!).

A month or so ago a date was driving me to our dinner destination when I saw my mother and our neighbor walking down the road. Knowing my mother would notice me in a stranger's car, I told him to pull over so I could say hi; this is the conversation that followed...

Me: Hi mom, Mrs. W, this is Eric, we're going out to eat in Northampton

Mom: Oh hi Erik (looks at me) is he from Obner?

Me: Uh, no. We met at the bar last night

Mom: Oh, well have fun you two!

*we pull away*

Erik: *laughing* Obner? What's Obner?

Me: Well, you see...

We never went on another date, which was, astonishingly, my decision.

Bloor/Derris... this is about the time you guys tell everyone how my Atlanta friends were quizzing you two on how we knew each other.

Since I've been taking these meds, I've been in a waking dream. I've been remembering portions of my life that I haven't thought about in more than 30 years. Very strange stuff. I pull my kids' pictures out of my wallet and look at it, just to remind me where I am and who I am to the world. I'm a dad and I have responsibilities to more than just myself.

I'm starting to reconsider the reasons why I've become a dog owner. I'd totally forgotten that these things exhibit behaviours that are only slightly more intelligent than single-celled organisms.

they were beyond curious--nothing beats though Dump Jack's wife who insisted on coming down to meet me and LooGAR before we took Dump away...the fear in her eyes told me that she wasn't expecting to see him anywhere short of "in critical condition at a local hospital"

Yeah, that really was quite funny. Especially because i had to get out to let you in, and was approx 2 1/2 feet taller than she is.

I bet just seeing Bloor's truck was a relief. She probably expected a beat up 78 Buick Life Ruiner or something.

hmm, just got an offer to write music commentary on a friend's blog. Might be a good way to cut my teeth on public writing.

i shouldn't be surprised but the gza/jamie lidell show i had tix for in nyc got canceled. i'm debating whether i'm even going to go to nyc now. i might just take the bus down friday afternoon, hang out with my friend to watch the sox/yankees game and then head back saturday morning/afternoon.


also, people on bicycles should not ride in the middle of a lane like they're a motorized vehicle. you're just asking to be hit.

Were they trying to make a turn? Was there no bike lane?

first of all, let's get out of the way that most major cities have laws prohibiting riding a bicycle on sidewalks. secondly, some cities have legislation noting that bicycles are allowed to take up an entire lane if there is not a bicycle lane. so, i'm just saying...

it was at a stoplight, she was behind a large truck and in front of me. there's no bicycle lane but there was easily enough room on the right to pass.

i don't think there are many bicycle lanes in boston. it's not a very bicycle friendly town.

i'm guessing she was probably a student not from here.

well, I guess my response is that it's hard to say whether she should have been in the lane or not, because I'm not sure what she was trying to do. I know I get in the middle of a lane if I'm going to make a left hand turn, but I also am signaling that I'm going to do that, even while stopped in the lane.

I do get pissed off at bikers who ride two across on a street. Even with Portland being as bike-friendly as it is, there's no reason to take up an entire lane with your buds if you can accomplish the same thing riding single file.

Now if you tell me she was riding sans helmet, then I say you shoulda hit her.

3 more annoying things while i was driving:

some lady swerved into my lane so she could make it around the truck that was halfway in her lane.

people who walk when there's a green light and cars are coming.

this tow truck stopped at a red light and then after about 4 seconds just went straight through.

Really? Because I was taught to stay off the road. Period. Shoulders, or road if there are no cars around (which there never aren't), but if a car comes, pull over.

oh you mean fucking everybody in Boston.

Had a guy walk right out once it turned green, looking at me, smiling. Grinning. Homeless looking guy, 40-ish. I just sat there waiting patiently, too. Once he got right in front of me, he stopped and did a little "look I'm holding you up" dance, laughed some more, taunted me, and then finally moved. I have no idea why in the hell he did that - I did NOTHING to antagonize him.

Un - fucking - believeable.


I sorta hope he gets run over, for everyone's sake.
