Dear Arrested Development Fans:

Thank you for your e-mail and your passionate support of Arrested Development. While the show has finished production for its second season, contrary to the rumors you may have heard or read on the internet, it is NOT cancelled.

We at FOX love Arrested Development and we look forward to having the Bluth family back on FOX in the future – hopefully for many years. You can help make the show a bigger success by getting as many people as possible to start watching the show this Sunday and every Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Sincerely,

Fox Broadcasting Company

Think we can trust 'em?

Damnit I hope so.

I'm contractually oblidged to trust them... FOX are good people. Hopefully they get Man VS Beast 3 out there sooner rather than later as well...

and, yes, I'm being serious about Man VS Beast...

Hot on the heels of having its episode order cut short, a scooper for Aint it Cool says Golden Globe Winner "Arrested Development" may have been given the chop.

David Cross stopped by TV's Jimmy Kimmel and announced that production on the critically acclaimed sitcom had ceased production that morning.

Even if its true, the network won't announce it until a few months time when they announce their next line-up

Nothing official, this is just the editor of that site's take on it.

Quote:
Some people have posted responses from Fox PR where Fox says the show is "not cancelled." This is 100% pure spin.

Cancellation means that Fox takes a show off the air. What happened is Fox reduced the episode order from 22 to 18. So, technically speaking, Fox did not cancel the show.

The truth is, most shows don't actually get cancelled, per se. With other shows, Fox has reduced episode commitments, then simply not renewed the show. No "cancellation" occurred, so Fox is true to its word.

Now, if you're happy to just see the remaining 8 episodes, you can trust Fox's spin. Don't worry that Fox has previously stood by other shows as "innovative" and yet still never bothered to air episodes from a reduced episode committment.

What I think people are fighting for now isn't the 8 remaning episodes, it's a third season. With this week's announcements, Fox said they don't need quite so much of season 2. In my opinion, that's tantamount to saying, we don't need season 3.

If my boss told me, "Hey, we don't have enough work here, we only need you to work 25 hours a week instead of 40" I'd be worried about my job, even though it would be true that he didn't fire me. My opinion is that this situation is the same.

Now, some may say this is running around going coka-coka-coh, the sky is falling. For the sake of the show, I hope they're right, but I'm not so optimistic, at least based solely on some form letters from Fox PR. I'm optimistic that there's still time to make a difference, though.

Seriously, if Arrested Development goes off the air I might get rid of my TV.

"AD" is one of only like, 3 prime-time network shows I watch every week. And as much as I'd miss it, I can't say that I'd blame Fox if they cancelled it. Honestly, guys, if you look at the ratings...people are just not watching this thing.

The series creator made a good point in the Onion - something to the effect of "there aren't really any other shows like this on network TV...so what do you pair it with?" I think that's a big part of the problem - it just doesn't fit anywhere.

as much as i like this show, i wish that more shows would follow the lead of The Office and just tell their story and call it a day.

reminds me of a quote on the simpsons i saw tonight, "this is the longest running British sit com, and if you donate now you can help us show all 7 episodes."

or something like that.

I didn't think it would make it to a second season, so I'm content with it ending after 2 seasons. Fox has surpassed my expectations.

But I would be much happier if it kept going for a tad longer.

It worked for The Office, Faulty Towers and The Young Ones. Of course i wish there were a few more episodes of each but at least the quality was always top notch.

AD surpassed the # of episodes of The Office during their first season...

I don't think that the Office could've run for much longer at all...AD, on the other hand, has constantly evolved and, dare I say it, become more funny/innovative as time goes on...

I'll take one "Arrested Development" over one "The Office" any day...

I know...I was quoting an earlier episode...didn't mean to mess up/imply that it was a transcription from the clip....

Though, as long as we're still voting on things to use as "smileys/icons"...

No I wasn't implying you were wrong. Just adding the transcript.
