I just took that out of the library last night, just because I had a craving to hear "She's Gone".

You know... it ain't bad. Not great, but my craving has been sated.
If SK were still posting here with any regularity, I know that he would have a comment, but... anyone else have an opinion?

That video for "She's Gone" on youtube...

It's probably their best proper studio release.

I have little use for their mid 80s and beyond work and the early albums are spotty, but the trio of She's Gone, Rich Girl and Sara Smile are all fantastic songs.

I have one of those Very Best of comps of Hall & Oates that suits me when I feel the need for some AM listening.

In all seriousness, H&O are about as good as it gets for radio-friendly blue-eyed soul/pop. Regardless of ridicule, I remain a fan of their '70s/'80s hit output. When it comes to dogpiling on H&O, I can't go for that, no can do.

Animal Collective and any other Ting Ting La La/Poo Poo Bear band is infinitely more fuckwithable than H&O.

Two words even Billy and Rodney have to admit are more heinous than "Hall" and "Oates":

"Joanna" and "Newsome"

I couldn't name one Joanna Newsome song though...I know from the little bit I've sampled that she's awful but after I call her elfin and point out she plays a harp, I'm done. Hall & Oates lol material for hours.

H&O put out a ton of material. And a staggering amount of it was top-shelf, for what it is. If you don't like anything that ever sold a lot of copies, ok, I understand. Top 40 is not normally my thing. But Hall had (has) an extremely good voice, and does what he does better than just about anyone.

Yes, there was crap.

Yes, there's that album cover where they're about to nut on each other.

Yes, there's the mustache.

My point is, that they're kind of an easy target, so if you're just saying that they aren't damn good because it seems like you're supposed to, maybe rethink it. If you genuinely don't see any value in them, that's ok too. For my money, pretty much unfuckwithable heavy hitters.

You gotta just relaxe and let the pop slide in.

Well, Squirggle's newfound homosexuality at least partly explains his tolerance for Hall & Oates - now how does he explain that "Pop" is his pet name for Opa?

Sorry.
No matter what OPA speculates, I'm just not that way.

In almost every H&O song, there's a moment where I'm like, damn, why can't the whole song be that good? Then it devolves back to the lesser idea.

Typically the good moments are the straight pop beat, major key, almost falsettoish vocals, and the not so good moments are white boy funk in minor keys.

It's a formula that worked well for them, i just always thought that maybe they were a little on the lazy side and went for quantity rather than refining the material they did have.
