I need to find storage for about 600-800 books. They're mostly spiral bound or in folders, so the covers are like 9.5-10.5" long by 11-11.5" wide.

I'd like to find plastic storage bins for them but everything I'm finding in this f*cking office supplies catalog is storage for files.

Any ideas? I looked at the Container Store website and am still kind of drawing a blank. Damn it.

because this would be my suggestion:

28.7 x 20.8 x 18.8" Gray Attached Lid Totes

You need to measure how thick the books are, then see how many would fit in a 20" high stack. You'll get 2 of those stacks into each of these boxes. So 800 books divided by that total # per box, plus maybe one extra box if it's a big deal that none be left out, and here's the price scheme:

Buy 6: $89 each ($534 plus shipping)
Buy 7-12: $86 each plus shipping
Buy over 24: $83 each plus shipping

are you thinking of like Rubbermade-type storage bins? Something like these:

That's more my style.

I wouldn't mind just burning the damn things, but uh, I don't think my boss would approve.

edit: this is about as cheap / chitty as you wanna go. Stack that third one on top and the whole thing will probably splinter to shreds. But they're $26 each or some shit.

Yes. Why are the lids sold separately?

my second solution also makes a great place to molest people. Just wanted to point that out.

So this is for work? Are you needing to have the books accessible at any time? Is your company large enough to have an off-site archiving/storage facility? Like, do they have a storage facility they send old accounting files for storage until destruction dates? I'd look into that if you do.

I showed her a storage site.

fuck overhead. Just put up a shack next to the parkinglot. Tell your boss to amortize it over 2 months.

All our reports, bills, etc here at the station, we use some sort of cardboard file box. Pretty sturdy. F'ers weigh like 60 some pounds though when full.

Store them on half.com. People will be more than happy to pay you to store them. They will be scattered all over the country, you will have to package and ship them, and you can't get them back without paying them money, but hey, they won't be at your house.

(Unless of course these aren't books that you can buy at the store...)

Books are one of the heaviest things on earth when packed into boxes, so I recommend the smallest boxes you can muster, unless you can guarantee two people. The one Yail Bloor posted looks just small enough that a strong person will be able to carry it when full.

That said, if you suspect that they're just going to stay there, then screw it, get a big one, and try to load them as close to there as possible, to minimize carrying distance.

No, dude, it's laminate. And I don't mean laminate on MDF, I mean just laminate.

actually it's metal, painted to look like wood, if I remember right. As long as it muffles the cries of a ruined childhood, it's still a bargain.
