Man, I don't know....most of my favorite bands have put out something that I consider to be a "misstep album" even if it included 1 or 2 great songs.

yeah obviously. i can't say there are a ton of bands on this thread that really do it for me but i can't agree with wilco anymore and others that i love are sonic youth, yo la tengo, lambchop.

I was trying to think the other day of currently active recording bands with at least 3 releases whose entire catalog is worth owning and I couldn't come up with many. I think Dinosaur Jr. is the only one i could think of.

What says you. For quality control, assume "worth owning" means that you either own it or its on your shopping list if you don't, and that if you do own it and your entire collection was stolen but your insurance was going to cover buying an equivalent amount of new music that you would repurchase it.

Man, I wouldn't put Dinosaur Jr. in that category at all. A handful of great songs and no great albums. Then again, I guess it's easier to not have any duds if your entire catalogue is an undistinguished wash of meh.

For me:

Rancid
Ween
Spoon
You Am I
Gingersol
The Gourds
The Fleshtones
Cowboy Junkies

All the others I can think of fall in the singer/songwriter category - or have disbanded.

And Diggity Dawg needs to get in here and pimp for the Supersuckers and the Wildhearts

You're Living All Over Me is a great album. Even with some Lou Barlow wankery.

Almost the same for me, but I didn't really get into The Pod or Telephono.

But I probably need to listen to Telephono a little more....

If there's a dud in the Spoon canon, it AIN'T Telephono.

Actually, it IS Telephono along with Kill the Moonlight.

Yeah, that first one and Ancient Melodies... make them ineligible for this list in my mind.

I agree with you there, but I'd consider the closest thing to a dud to be Girls Can Tell and you probably don't agree with that.

Neither does anyone else with functioning cochleas.

The closest thing to a dud is obviously Gimme Fiction.

I could probably agree with this now. I think both of the last two albums are good enough, and even though I haven't listened to Trust more than once or twice, it seems decent.

I love Low. I actually really enjoyed their last 2 albums. Completely different direction, but I really enjoyed them.
