. . . and it will be ready to start drinking in August of 2006. Tonight I add the wine yeast, and I will bottle it sometime in August of this year.

This will take much more patience and restraint than beer making, which takes almost as much patience and restraint as I possess.

Next up to brew (maybe in time for SXSW):
1) A light, drinkable real ale
2) A light, drinkable real ale (with raspberries for flavoring)
3) My first batch of mead.

I'm a homemade alkie!

np: new spoon

The mead won't be ready in 2005, though, unless it ends up being particularly low alcohol hooch, in which case I'll go ahead and drink it.

How many bottles of the wine will you get out of that?

I'd like to try some of this stuff when I finally live someplace longer than 8 months.

It will make approximately 4 1/2 750mL bottles, so I have to make another batch of wine shortly (one that will finish the ferment faster), and bottle the two at the same time, and the 9th bottle will get some freaky blend like "Blueberry-Grapefruit Wine."

Winemaking looks like it will be way cheaper and easier than beermaking, but much more involved in terms of aging.

My goal is to try and do one 5 gallon batch of beer per month and one 1 gallon batch of wine per month, and before long I will be using homemade alcohol as my primary form of currency.

"Hi, Papa John's? I want one pepperoni and one cheese. Would you like that in beer or wine? Thanks"
