as the title track came on itunes just now it dawned on me just how big a part of whatever year it was and whatever year in high school it was when the album came out, especially considering i never heard any of their previous albums in their entirety. what has become of art alexakis now that he's 80 years old?

I know he sold his double neck SG to Chicago Music Exchange for less than it was worth...

He was one of Oregon's delegates to the DNC in Boston this past fall.
My friend interviewed him and said he's a heckuva nice guy, which runs completely contrary to the cover story in CMJ from 2000.

But whatever.

Haven't heard about anything music-related in quite some time.

And Phil, isn't unloading music instruments on the cheap a behavior typically exhibited by folks who, how to put this... prefer their reality somewhat altered?

Just sayin'.

I think I read that he didn't file taxes from 1999 to 2002 and that he owes tons of money to the IRS, so much so that he had to declare bankruptcy. I'll look for a link.

Have always liked Everclear -- they knew how to cut right to the core of hurt and confusion caused by divorce, abandonment and bad communication. If they hadn't written the same damned song 50 times, complete with "whoa" "yeah" and "no" in every one, I'd like them that much more. Props also to Everlast and Everything and whatever other "Ever" band I'm forgetting.

Art Alexakis is a douchebag if there ever was one.

This is every single everclear song:

duh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh "yeeeah" duh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh "yeeeah"

Also, just for laughs, take a look at the "everclear" official website, there is not one picture of any of the bandmembers...its All Art.

Oh, c'mon, you're leaving our "no-oh!" and "whoa-oh!" Them's crucial Everclear coda materials.

Showed up on my iPod shuffle today also. Weird. Liked the first three albums quite a bit but lost interest. Saw them twice, both promoting ...Afterglow. First show was better.

spizzle: Give Sparkle And Fade a try.

I think that's because he's the only original guy left - I heard somewhere that he canned the other 2 & has different people now ( including Kilo from FLIPP on drums ) .

Not a fan, though.

I liked everclear at first, but after their 2nd or third album, there seemed to be a pretty dramatic drop in their, or I guess Art's, work. When they oput out those 2 sequaled discs or whatever, they had officially jumped the shark for me.

Everclear holds the distinction for me of being the worst live band that I ever witnessed.

He used to have his own radio show here in Portland on 94.7 fm, but they've changed formatting within the last year, and I haven't heard it since. He's still around here. He lives in the same neighborhood as one of my friends.

Everclear weren't totally horrible, but they never did much for me. Their name (and Art's) still carries clout around PDX though.

"Santa Monica" was the soundtrack to my 8th grade class trip to the Barrier Islands of SC.

Maybe Art should sue Lil' Jon over the gratuitous "YE-AH!".

I mean c'mon, while the world was sleeping on "YE-AH!", Art was championing it's use, and should be rewarded some fruits of that labor of love.

I know he used to fly girls into whatever city he would be in behind his wifes back. My girlfriends sister is one of those girls.

For some loving.

He is in a Portland Trailblazers commercial - trying to convince one of the guys to like their music - he says it is "too agressive"

lame.

She's too skinny to get stuffed with enough heroin to make it worth while.

ironically, out of 28k+ songs, "otis redding" by everclear just spun up on my winamp shoutcast.

also, we used their "honeymoon song" as a wedding reception "outro" (gets the hell out!) song.

overall, they're fairly average.

I saw Everclear recently on uh, Carson Daley's show. He was the only "original member" to be found. Because I was curious, I checked the web site the next day too and discovered the same thing. Then I tried to do a search to see if there was any mention of him firing the rest of the band, but found nothing. I totally spent too much time on this.

"Sparkle and Fade" is an aces 90's rock album IMO. I like about 5-6 sogns on "Afterglow" and I think "Father of Mine" was the best single they ever had. Great wall of guitar on that song along with pretty personal subject matter.
