What is this reformatting you speak of? I've been hearing the same albums and songs come up for a week now.

you should use smartplaylists, they change up everytime you connect your ipod

wha?
explain.

Edit: is this where you just make a playlist, turn it on random and it throws the thousand songs in a random order and starts at #1?

How else do you do random?

i've had to delete entire albums because my random is all hot for them. it's worth it though because i'll never have to hear Johnny Cash singing "Little Drummer Boy" again. sweeet.

Does anyone actually listen to whole albums on their I-Pod? I got fed up with not-so-random random and went back to listenting to complete LP's.

I don't like random because of the volume differential...

Then again, I was stupid and started importing at 196k and, now that I have 18GB or so on there, I'm debating starting the whole process over and putting those things on at 128k in hopes of more albums fitting on this thing...

Try 128kbs AAC files if you're going to - they sound as good as, and maybe better than 160kbs mp3s. But I don't envy you re-ripping everything . . . Godspeed, my man.

kind of, you can fix your smartplaylist to choose a number of songs and then add some parameters, like song length or genre's or track numbers.

check out www.smartplaylists.com

if your lists are huge you might have to toggle the random button a couple of times to get a nice newly randomized playlist, but is worth it, i have one for every genre and a few that mix them up

The iRiver's shuffle is probably its weakest feature, but I'm still glad I bought it. It'll be improved when Rockbox releases their firmware. And I just found out on MisticRiver that there's going to be a Gameboy emulator! How kickass is that?

i am now there - listened to Wilco - Being There, then Kathleen Edwards.

I am sick of the same songs coming up over and over. My iPod loves The Cure...really really loves them.

Even though the iRiver's shuffle isn't so random, at least it won't repeat a song until they're all played. Yay for that.

I listen to full albums, though.

I go through phases of listening to complete albums on my iPod, and then periods of about a week where I just listen on shuffle alll the time. I'm currently in one of the latter ruts.

Well I bought it with my first wage packet suspecting, correctly as it turned out, I wouldn't be receiving to many wage packets.

I've just started this daunting task myself, as I too was stupid, but didn't realize it until mine was full.

I'm hoping I'll be able to re-discover some stuff because of this though.

I think when you go on the dole in the UK they just hand you an iPod so you don't have to be bored.
