Shiv, not exactly horror, but have you seen the red band trailer for Aliens vs. Predator? It actually looked like it might have some entertaining bits in it...

The sequel? I'm checking it out now.

The first one was awful.

edit: Looks like it's pretty graphic. I'd probably see a matinée of it.

Shiv mentioned Calvaire on the first page of this thread. I was totally into it. Some serious fucked up shit and you never know where the movie is going. Thanks for the suggestion.

Films that might fit this thread I've seen recently:

13 TZAMETI is a really good fuck your head up film if you can get through the first 20 minutes while it sets things up. Film noir and unpredictable.

Along the same theme as 13 Tzameti, Intacto from 2001 is one to add to your que. Max Von Sydow is in it. Love Intacto.

Provided you buy wholly into the idea of shutting yourself up in a dark room, locking the doors and windows, and immerse yourself into this claustrophic fear of the unknown, it's a fantastic ride. I do and I loved it. It's so lean and tightly-wound, relying entirely on shadowplay and noises in the night, that the movie just blazes past (and it's only like 70 minutes to begin with).

This coming Tuesday is a goldmine of cult and camp horror:

From Beyond, The Burning, Scarecrows, Witchfinder General, Food of the Gods, a slew of new Midnite Movies double features, BCI's grindhouse double features, and Vincent Price and Roger Corman boxsets.

If you liked Calvaire, you should rent Sheitan. It's French too and even more fucked up than Calvaire.

I have 13 Tzameti somewhere in my Netflix queue. I thought Intacto was decent.

I thought Cell was pretty good up until the end. Then it just went wonky. But you should totally try to schmooze your way into being an extra in that opening scene downtown, which could be fucking awesome.

dunno about Buick 8. Never read it, and my faith in Tobe Hooper has evaporated quickly.

Watched The Host last night, I really enjoyed it. I loved the ebb and flow of the pacing -- my movie watching buddy did not, however. He thought it needed editing, to wit: there were good parts, bad parts, and really bad parts. He could've done without the really bad parts. There were fast parts, slow parts, and really slow parts -- he could also've done without the really slow parts.

High standards, huh?

I thought the good parts were really good, like when she says, "stay here", or the opening crowd sequence.

Reminded me a bit of the vengeance trilogy in portions, I don't know why.

Them was really good.

Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon was good even though it was pretty silly.

Also, Amazon is have a big horror dvd sale.

Black Sheep was excellent. It seemed like it wasn't gonna be gory for awhile but then it went all end of Re-Animator on me.

I LOVE your avatar. So creepy.

I watched the Japanese Premonition on Saturday. Made me jump a few times, had a few scenes where I wanted to throw up. Two thumbs up.

Now I'm ready to watch the Sandra Bullock Premonition and rip it to shreds.

The preview for One Missed Call looks remotely promising. However, I REALLY want the ringtone from the preview.

Speaking of Shannyn Sossamon, I watched this movie Catacombs with her in it on FEARnet. Apparently, it's not out on video yet. It was pretty decent except for Pink being in it and it had a really stupid ending but which turned out ok.

I've had a thing for her since Rules of Attraction.

Just a heads up--if yr into horror, you probably own the staples, but Best Buy and Circuit City have a bunch of them on sale for $4.99 and $6.99. Stuff like Halloween, Re-Animator, Hills Have Eyes (org), Exorcist, Hellraiser, etc.

Surprised that there isn't a 30 Days of Night thread up top yet. Shiv, did you see it? I saw it Sat. night, and while I'll admit I had it built up in my head, I was a little dissappointed in it. I dug the camera moves, and gore at points, but overall it was kind of underwhelming.

I really enjoyed it. Easily one of the best vampire movies made. Although, that doesn't necessarily say much considering there really aren't very many good vampire movies at all, IMO.
