So I've been wanting to see these guys for a while now and when they announced that they would be playing the intimate Eddie's Attic I reserved a table for 4 the day they went on sale.

Eddie's Attic is an acoustic music venue and a singer/songwriters wet dream. It legally only holds 185 people, the acoustics and sound system are incredible, and the general etiquette is to keep quiet and enjoy the music.

We had a table 10 feet from the stage.

They were amazing. They played as a 4 piece with the drummer being the only one to play only one instrument. The others shared duty on either bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, or piano, all played to perfection. This is a venue where you simply cannot fake it under distortion or reverb or what have you and knowing that they must be a producer or sound engineers dream. Karin sang every note perfect and nuanced from the moment she opened her mouth. They are masters of knowing what notes not to play and listening to each other. Kind of like a touring jazz band that knows what the other is going to play before they even play it.

What can I say? I was mesmerized. I couldn't stop watching her sing. One of the best shows I've ever been to. I like them on record but this was way beyond my expectations. The only miniscule issue I had was when they would take too long introducing a song and it would come close to entering "Quiet Storm" territory. Easily forgivable though the second they started the next number.

This was every bit as good as some of the best rock shows I've been to. Go see em if you get the chance.

Here's the setlist, heavy on the new album but I liked that:

I Don't Want To Waste Your Time
Radio Heaven
Long Lost Brother
I'm On A Roll
Let's Spend The Day In Bed
Entertaining Thoughts
What I'll Remember Most
The Trumpet Child
Who am I Kiddin But Me ----> Drum Solo (I'm serious)
Trouble
Latter Days
North Pole Man
Goodbye Charles
Ohio
Orphan Girl (Gillian Welch cover)

Encore:

Hush Now (Stella's Tarantella)
If A Song Could Be President
Don't Wait For Tom

Nice Derris. I just heard The Trumpet Child the other day and thought it was really good stuff. It's nice being able to catch an artist like that in such a venue.

Nice. I've seen them a couple of times, but the best was definitely last year when they played locally.

man, I remember seeing John Mayer there in high school and thinking then how much I hated him...

I heard from other sources that OTR was a great show, glad you enjoyed it.

I don't know if I know any of those songs, but it sounds like an awesome time nonetheless. The smaller the venue, and the closer you can get, especially having a table, etc, just adds to the awesome of a band like this.

Yeah, I've had this experience at almost every show of theirs I've seen. Her voice is just flawless, and well, she's really sexy when she's singing.

I've been wanting to see them for the past 10 years but something always happens.....they pull out of the tour with Cowboy Junkies....or they cancel a tour and decide they need to work on their marriage....SO SELFISH.

Austinites,

They'll be down here on May 2 and May 3. Not sure which one I'm going to, but I'm definitely going to one of them. I would go to both, but at $25 a ticket...nah...

great live band, impeccable live show

i saw their xmas show at the taft theater in cincy 7-8 yrs ago, and again at a small club in indy (patio) a few years after that

OTR aren't necessarily my cup of lipton, but i highly respect their ability as musicians and songwriters

Ditto. I'm actually not that into their studio stuff - find it kinda boring - but live, watching her sing just makes it a good show no matter what they play.
