"Bozo" is from the French slang term "bouseaux" meaning hick, peasant, or yokel. Bouseaux literally means "cow turds." So Bozo The Clown means "Cow Shits The Clown."

"Cous-cous" is Iranian for "vagina."

Avocado is from "awa guatl," a South American Indigenous word for testicle.

"Catharsis" was Greek in origin and was Early Modern English for "vomiting."

"Orange" comes from the ancient Sanskrit "naga ranga," which literally means "fatal indigestion for elephants."

"Whisky" came from "uisge beatha" (Scottish Gaelic) and "uisce beatha" (Irish Gaelic) which mean "water of life."

That's very true.

Hey, Frostingspoon. I don't know which site you're referencing, but if it includes the origins idioms, could you look up the following entry: "drop one's yop". As in, "'What's the matter, Chet?' 'I just dropped my yop, Sue. Best get the Vax out.'"

I've located the definition. Drop one's Yop (v.) - to ejaculate messily in a manner not unlike that of a bottle of the popular drinkable yoghurt being dropped onto the tiled floor of a petrol station. But what's the origin?

np > pernice bros. - yours mine ours

Well, Yop is just short for Yoplait, which is the contraction of "Yola" and "Coplait", brands operated by two French cooperatives that merged in the mid '60's

However, Lagniappe (lahn-yop) is a Cajun French word meaning "a little something extra."

I know this from my very basic knowledge of Ancient Greek but the word 'Kaleidoscope' comes 'kalos eidos scop' which translated means "look at beautiful shapes".

I could give you a few more, but you clearly don't give a fuck so....

I care. So very much. I ache with care and shit. It's Shiv who hates all humanity and its tedious penchant for trivia.

I'm pretty sure Shiv hates America, too.

Ummm...some random "word origin" googling or other. I was looking up a word for my wife.

Some good ones here: http://www.westegg.com/etymology/

It's neither funny nor a joke about you. South Pacific flung this barb my direction. I really don't know what to make of it. I'm more fucked off by konstantinl not showing the admirable King Diamond his due respect.

Dunno. Maybe he just thinks the name "Moxie" is archaic. But it's a hell of a soft drink.
