The episode was about gay marriage, and was preceded by a disclaimer that said something to the effect of "warning: the following show contains discussion of same sex marriage."

What the fuck is going on in this country? Regardless of what you think of the issue, is this disclaimer really necessary?

There were a few hilarious moments, including Krusty Burger's latest menu item (The "Whatchamacarcass") and Selma's brief 4th marriage...to Disco Stu ("Disco Stu just got an annullment from John Paul II...BOOGALOO!"). The transvestite pro golfer bit was lame, though, as was the complete exclusion of Smithers from any and all gay marriage content. There was a pretty funny reference made to Lenny and Carl, though.

Everyone keeps saying The Simpsons sucks these days, but it's really more a matter of it not being as good as it used to be -- but it's STILL better than almost everything else on TV, and definitely worth continuing to watch. Few things irritate me more than Simpsons backlash.

the simpsons have kind of run out of ideas, but when you watch them on re-run it levels the playing field of new expectation and all episodes are of pretty equal quality.

I was working on the water heater, and I missed it. As a fan who spent college taping the episodes (carefully editing out commercials), I am ashamed. Who was gay, now? The pic above didn't post.

aaahhhh.... In hindsight it was so obvious.

Timmy - I'm fascinated, what show does it for you?

Scrubs and Arrested Development are the only comedies airing new episodes that really do it for me. I also look to Conan for humor, but can hardly stay up that late. Boston Legal is good too.
I used to love Simpsons, but it has just gotten soooooo old.

The past year or so, I have been into the CSI's and Law and Order and Without a Trace, but they are all the same to me, and are beginning to get old too.

I can't stand the reality tv shows, like Survivor, Apprentice, or that Missy E show. I do like the Extreme Makeover home edition, but that could be the architect in me.

the commericals are the best part.

good stuff.

Oh don't get me started on the extreme makeover. Oh man. I try not to watch, I try to be snide if it is indeed on ("they've already shown that clip 8 times" or "I'd kill him if he had that bullhorn in my face"), but damn if I don't get a little misty by the end of it.

Bastards.

I think that show is great because it is the only reality show (at least that I know of) that displays the best of human nature, rather than the worst. At the same time, that host drives me insane. I always imagine some network executive saying to him "that last shot was okay, but really try to push the zaniness even further."

lmao,

I like Ty, because he is sincere and a good motivator (not to mention a bad-ass carpenter). He's infinitely better than the Trading Spaces bitch.

So if she's been gay since childhood like the episode alluded to, why did Patty ever date Principal Skinner? She was resigned at first to him, but she eventually fell for him.

Just another one of the vast inconsistencies in the simpsons.

Well, I didn't see the episode, but maybe we're narrowing the definition of "gay" a bit too much there. Maybe she's 90/10.

I thought the episode was hilarious personally.

"I'm as astraight as a one dollar bill...la la laa.lala.."

I thought there was plenty of good humor in it. those of you who didn't like it are just plain wrong. :)

All the meta-jokes are getting really fucking tiresome. They were a riot when the show started. Now it's just like watching Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back every week.

"Ok, you read all those? Good."
