I just deleted all 5200+ songs off my Zen Xtra, because I decided I wanted to "start over"...

Somehow, I think I have fun messing with the ID tags so that they are all in sync, and stressing about what genre each given album falls under.

Anyway, I don't really know why I did it. I was just reading for class, and was like "Eh, maybe I'll have a better selection"

...so.

I don't really know how you're supposed to reply.

But.

Ok, goodnight.

The genre tags on my files are so off, I just don't care about them at all.

Oh, I do...cuz I use my mp3 player in my car. Cassette adapter, it's brilliant really. And when I got friends or whatever, instead of subjecting them to my "Play all tracks" which will go from Arthur Brown to Velvet Underground to Albert Ayler to Cam'Ron to Black Flag in succession...they can just tell me what genre they like, and then I just play that genre. Or, just for myself too. I'm planning on revamping it, really...and then utilizing the playlist function a little bit more. An example of how bad my genre categories were was that I used to have all Electronic music under only two categories: "Electronic" and "Electronic Pop"...the difference was that "Electronic" was usually vocal-less and "Electronic Pop" had vocals in most songs. That was a bad idea. Especially since those are the two types of music I listen to the most these days.

Yeah, I'd like to tag my files properly according to genre, but I always blank out and just tag them with "Rock" or "Indie" or something else that's broad and useless.

This would work really well, If I had any sort of order to my genre entries... but its a crap shoot

Do you label by album, or by song? There are a lot of artists out their whose sound changes too much from tune to tune for this to work for me. Plus, there isn't any way to list music in more than one genre, is there?

the exact reason i don't use genre labeling.

I label them with a vague genre (with this) but rarely use the tags. I find MusicMagic to be a lot more effective, and it's cool because it finds similar sound/vibes across genres which is always fun.

I do it by album usually...but play it safe. I don't know. I'm not THAT picky.

In foobar2000, I think you can seperate multiple values with a \. I don't know if this works in other players. I haven't even used it in foobar2000.
