Kings of Leon review

Wow, way to miss the fucking point, TMT. Thought this was appropriate for the US release day, although I'd imagine that most people have heard it already. This Strokes-rip-off-backlash is ridiculous. Seems like the guy never even reviewed the album. Example: what is that shit about "King of Rodeo" and the Cars? Yeah, I guess it is stealing, since it has completely different words, melody, and chords.

Personally, this album has been on repeat for a couple weeks. Sure, there's some Strokes-style guitar work, but here's a newsflash: Albert Hammond didn't invent that. Furthermore, if reviewers like this guy would actually listen to it, they might find some really good songwriting.

Anyway, this'll probably be in my top 20 for this year; other opinions?

I like this album.

Bucket in particular is great. I don't know where this reviewer is getting The Strokes comparisons from...and I just had Rooms On Fire on in the car but these albums don't sound similar at all IMO. I hear different musical influences in The Kings of Leon but not so much that I'd think that they are a blatant rip-off of anybody (i.e. The Cars for example).

This is a fun album, and this reviewer takes himself way to seriously.

I think most reviewers take themselves too seriously.

I'm listening to Bo Diddley today and I'm sure he's broken-hearted to hear that the freakin' Kings of Leon are ripping off the Strokes.

BTW, I like Kings of Leon.

If you are real, you don't have to try to be. You are just real. Bitching about there being less women backstage now than after the first album came out -- three of four Followills braggingly losing their virginity after Youth & Young Manhood -- is a good indication they were only in it for the objects from the start and is not in my definition of what constitutes real, genuine human beings. That description tends to fall under pussy-driven hacks. Do yourself a huge favour and ignore the hype because that's all it is. Pretend this doesn't exist; your children will thank you.

He's just jealous they are getting WAY more than him. What a goon.

I fucking hate value judgements in music reviews. What sensitive shithead wrote this? Who cares that they're getting a lot of action. I would assume that most people do not. It's not like when I'm looking for a cd to play, I'm thinking "oh shit, what today....oh I know! I really like that band who gets a lot of tail, I think I'll play that today" .

And when did being pussy driven somehow relegate a band into hackdom or whatever? And why should we appreciate a band if they are "genuine human beings". Jesus, who cares if it sounds good. Guns n Roses seemed pretty pussy driven to me based on 'Anything Goes' and 'Rocket Queen' and Axl Rose seems like a fucking idiot but that has never spoiled 'Appetite' for me.

$8? I've got a tower right down the street from my office. I think I'll stop in on the way to the train.

I hate the way the TMT guy approached the rview but I do agree in principle that these guys are style over substance. IF you haven't heard it already, chck out the Black Mountain album, much better for a retro- rock fix IMHO.

i thought that first album was very dull, but this new one? man, i digs it. been listening to it a ton. it's got that we-found-our-personality quality of a third album, to me, if that makes any sense. and the songwriting's fantastic. catchy as hell.
