My buddy and I have been planning a trip to Prague for the past 6 months or so. I was starting to think it was never going to happen. Work conflicts and his wife kept putting a damper on our plans. It turns out it's on after all.

We booked our tickets this afternoon. We'll be leaving from Chicago April 2nd and returning home on April 10th.

I know virtually nothing about Prague but I'm excited as can be about this trip.

So, who's got some inside info. for me? What'll the weather be like in early April?

This is going to rock!

awesome man! my wife and i just went there in september and LOVED it.
here are a couple pic's i had on my computer here at work:
Image
this is the view of "mala strana" (lesser town or little quarter) and the charles bridge. we stayed just over the bridge on the left hand side in a hotel that i highly recommend called u zlatych nuzek. great people, and perfect location, just off the bridge.

Image
this is a shot of the charles bridge at sunrise...the only time you won't see huge crowds.

we were there for about the same amount of days that you are going, and felt that prague can be fully experienced in 3 to 4 days. i suggest taking some day trips to some really cool towns outside of prague. the shot below is a town called karlovy vary (or karlsbad), about an hour and a half northwest of prague near the german border.
Image
i also strongly suggest visiting cesky krumlov (i wish i had a pic) which is about 2 1/2 hours southwest of prague. one of the most beautiful, picturesque villages i have ever seen.
another easy day trip from prague is taking a 1/2 hour train ride to karljstein castle.

damn...i'm so jealous now...i want to go back! people, food, and beer (pivo!) are all top notch!

fastnbulbous has an awesome prague guide too...maybe he could hook you up with that.

The CMJ Board is still good for some things!

I heard that Prague isn't as cheap as it used to be, but it's still relatively cheap. Also, bring me back a bottle of absinthe!

my sister went there and said she ate meat and potatoes the whole time because it was the cheap food there. (she's a vegetarian)

sounds like a place i would like. please confirm the abundance of meat and potatoes as I would like to eat that everyday.

Prague is f'n beautiful, I am trying to save up money to go back there (I studied abroad there in '01). In addition to Prague, see if you can get to the highlands in the North (Moravia). Great wine country. Talk to the locals, the Czechs are a great bunch of drunks and are proud of that fact.

Everyone keeps mentioning how gorgeous all the women are. That's got to be a good sign.

We are planning on doing some day trips or maybe even overnight to somewhere.

A few people have suggested this ossuary outside of the city.

I don't know how I'm going to be able to work for the next month. I'll be too excited!
