He's a high-register singer-songwriter who borrows several pages from Elliott Smith's book. He was the first artist in many years that Kill Rock Stars signed based on an unsolicited demo.

I like him a lot and posted about "Son," but it didn't get much action.

does his voice grow on you? i just listened to some samples on amazon, and really liked the music...but his voice was hard to get into. those are only 30 second samples, and i could see it growing on me though.

Clearly it has for me, but I can definitely see it being a sticking point. If you click that link I posted, there are full versions of 2 songs from Son and one from the s/t.

i clicked on those mp3's on the site you linked, but it just spun...never came up. i'll try it again.

yeh, his voice is something you just eventually get over, because first you have to get your head around it, and quit thinking, 'dude, that CAN'T be a dude.' after you forget its a dude, and examine the quality of his voice (which is purdy high quality) with the kind of music he plays, its a really great pairing.

i heard this album the first time over the weekend. i cannot stop listening to it - absolutely beautiful. i would recommend this to any elliot smith fan. i didnt realize a male was singing vocals until i read this post.

it's even more jarring to hear that voice of his live. the show i went to was on like a monday night and there were like 10 people there. i kinda felt bad. then some drunk dude was yelling out requests that weren't even jeff's songs. i wanted to punch him.
