Thankfully, it looks like the cover will be reversible with a hand-drawn cover like the last two WA movies on the other side.

Title: The Life Aquatic
Starring: Bill Murray
Released: 10th May 2005
SRP: Price TBC

Further Details
Touchstone Home Entertainment has sent over artwork for the Wes Anderson directed The Life Aquatic which stars Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, Anjelica Huston, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum and Michael Gambon. The film tells the story of internationally famous oceanographer Steve Zissou, who sets sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive, and quite possibly non-existant Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou's partner. The film will be available in both single and a double-disc Criterion edition from the 10th May. Extras on the single-disc will include director commentary on select scenes, deleted scenes with director commentary, interviews with cast and crew with behind-the-scenes footage and the original theatrical trailer. The two-disc Criterion edition will include all of the above features along with a video journal of the on-the-set intern, a video journal of Waris Ahluwalia (Vikram), Seu Jorge musical performances: The Songs of David Bowie and The Life Aquatic: A Movie - an Albert Maysles documentary. Completing the package will be cast and crew interviews, an interview with the screenwriters and Antonio Monda and an interview with composer Mark Mothersbaugh. We've attached the official artwork below:

I was very "meh" on this in the theatres - very messy...I'm hoping that a DVD rewatching will help me process it better.

P.S. Bill Murray = top 5 actors all time for myself, but I think I've espoused my love for him enough times on this board...

In general? Yea, you are right. I guess you are paying extra for the best transfer available and generally great packaging and lots of extras. I tend to like Criterion's packaging and design a lot. I'm not a huge videofile, so the transfer doesn't make a huge difference to me. But I guess its good to know that its superior quality.

That Tarnation trailer was, though. I never finished downloading it.

Tennenbaums was Criterion as well, and I think that sold for around $20 out of the gate - which, by the way, is about $15-$20 less than my Criterion Rushmore cost me...

Criterion has done a good jod on keeping prices low for "first run" DVDs. Just because "Straw Dogs" costs $35 doesn't mean that Aquatic is going to...

Yea, but it seems like the only first-runs they are producing these days are Wes Anderson films. And if they are going to be the only one putting his films out on dvd, they have to keep the pricepoint low so that people will buy it. I'm guessing it will be $20-25.

Criterion easily makes more profit off of selling a first-run anderson film at around $20 than 3 months of all of their other releases combined...

Odds are that, without the WA money from Tennenbaums, they wouldn't have put out 5% of the films they've released since, as they wouldn't have had the money for rights aquisitions...

I'd guess you are probably right. There is a small minority that are willing to pay $38.99 for a new dvd that isn't a box set.

They're releasing a single disc and the criterion double-disc on the same day....

Yet both supposedly have the Criterion stamp...

It sounds like a mess...supposedly since the single disk has a 25 MSRP, and the Criterion has a $40 MSRP... If they put the one-disc on sale and not the other, Homeboy Post Mersh is gonna be pissed...

I love all of his other films - I'm hoping that it was just the company I was with or the projectionist, or some other random factor... I don't HATE the film - I just found it to be his weakest so far...

Which, I must mention, is head-and-shoulders above many others and, since I'm a big Bill Murray Fan, I'd buy it even if I dog-dare-didn't like it...

I bet both will be at Best Buy for under $25. Just a guess, though.

If the double disc is $20, I'll be getting it the first day...

period.

If not, it'll be a judgement call predicated by trade-in value...I mean, Rushmore is my favorite of his albums, and that was a nothing-else-in-Amoba-trade-value Criterion pickup, with that $40 value...
