My level of interest in the new one is quite low and I couldn't see myself dropping much coin to see them BUT the fact that they are bringing Modest Mouse AND The National along could allow for someone to talk me into to it.

R.E.M. TO TOUR NORTH AMERICA IN SUPPORT OF ACCELERATE
R.E.M. will tour North America this May and June in support of Accelerate, their new record which is set to be released on April 1. The band will be joined on the North American tour by Modest Mouse and The National. Please stay tuned to remhq.com for more details.

29--Los Angeles--Hollywood Bowl
31--Berkeley--The Greek Theatre

June

06--Chicago--United Center
08--Toronto--Molson Amphitheatre
10--Raleigh--Walnut Creek Amphitheatre
11--Washington, DC--Merriweather Post Pavilion
13--Boston--Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts
14--Long Island--Jones Beach Theater

Aren't those awfully big places for them these days?

I remember when they played the Palace in Auburn Hills back in '04 and they got MAYBE 7,000.

That's a good bill, but I doubt it all adds up to enough firepower to sell out arenas and large amphitheaters. Especially in this economy.

Excellent points. I'm actually not surprised that there are so few tour dates. I imagine that they'll do an extensive world tour outside of the US. I checked the numbers on that last album and it sold 2 million worldwide but only 232,000 in the US.

I guess they figure having the shows in the bigger cities will make the hardcore fans drive in from surrounding areas. Not sure.

Anyone think that if this new album fails to do well that they'll never be able to do large amphitheaters again? Or is their fanbase so vast that they'll be able to maintain status quo?

I hope this bill sticks together for Europe.

I wish they had done what they had promised to do a few years back and do a weeks worth of dates at the fox...I'd go to several of them if that were the case.

I think they'd be relegated to summer shed tours with a loaded bill. Man, have they dropped off the map. But, yeah, they do pretty well in Europe.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the new record, but that fag and his elderly buddies have burned me over and over.

I missed this the first time around. That Atlanta date actually works better for me than the Raleigh date. Might have to look into this.

I'm going for sure. Never seen REM live. On my list.

Oddly enough, I picked up Tourfilm DVD tonight for like $6 on clearance at Borders.

so you are the only person in the world with bills to pay? that's what I thought.

what's funny to me is that as i type this, REM is playing on the Today show in the other room and are playing "Losing My Religion". Whoops! way to promote the new material.
