Here's part of an email I got from the Earlimart email list today:

so tonite we start the first of our 3 night
stand at the silverlake lounge in los angeles. should
be pretty interesting. new old songs, reworking or
re-weirding of songs, ordering drinks from a
bartender named romeo, and watching/listening to our
friends play. just like the old days. so if you can,
please come out and join us. oh by the way, the
special surprise guest on wednesday will be our
friends "elbow". all the way from manchester. they
will be opening the show on wednesday so come out
early. you can buy advance tix at the link below.

http://virtuous.com/events/v/316919876/

there is also a s.f. date coming up on feb. 26th.

it's part of the noise pop festival at bottom of the
hill. i think it's a matinee/bbq type thingy.
www.noisepop.com
may tour dates coming soon. ok. take care. Aaron

Earlimart is S-O-L-I-D...I really want to go on Thursday when Silversun Pickups play w/them, but I don't think I'll have a hailstorm's chance in Los Angeles to catch it. Still, for those that like Elbow, to see them at the tiny Silverlake Lounge (with Earlimart, no less) is as good a show as LA has to offer this month...

Pretty darn good...except for the Moving Units teeny boppers who moshed next to me. Saw some friends, saw a couple of the musicians mulling about, got rained on...but, had a good time, nonetheless. :)

PS -- Thanks again for inviting me to Ted Leo -- wish I had paid attention to my phone much sooner!

I am giddy with anticipation. People who pass by my office may wonder why I'm twirling in my chair.

Report back with a full review damn it.

Also, I think you should come by L-Train tomorrow. Come hang out with me damn it! I'm not sure how the set-up will be, so hopefully I'll be able to catch the Rolling Blackouts, but I think you'll dig them.

I also want a play-by-play...but I'm more interested in the Earlimart set, as there is no way I'm going to be able to catch them tonight...

And, for tomorrow, Rolling Blackouts pale in comparison to the first ever L.A. show by The Hold Steady @ KF - in the front room, no less...Though I guess there's less of a "chill" factor at an actual show.

Well, I have no choice... I'm working the door.

haha, it's free before 10:30pm, $5 after. but still.... if you play nice, i'm nice. ;) i don't always work the door though.

and regardless, it's not a bad spot to check out the local bands around here, i discovered some great ones.

(p.s. there's lots of hot chicks who show up too. so that should be of some incentive, right?)

Oh shit, I forgot about L-Train. I'm going to see West Indian Girl at The Troub tomorrow night. What time are ya there 'til?

As for the Elbow review -- dunno if you’ve ever been to the Silverlake Lounge (I’d not) – it’s a wee bar, kinda like hanging out at your local watering hole, about the size of Hotel Café. They’ve a small stage that sits six inches above the floor, if that. Felt as if I’d been invited to their living room for a quickie jam session – it was simply lovely. Only three members of Elbow were there, lead singer, guitarist and keyboardist. They were the opening band and basically, did an acoustic set of five songs – couple of new songs added for flavour. As a btw, they’re in town, mixing their new album. Why didn’t I think to ask when they plan on releasing it? What a dork I am! I was a bit awestruck with the fact that I was seeing them in such a small place that my brain wasn’t functioning as it should. Anyway, the songs performed were (I stole the set-list written on a Post-It note left on the keyboard):

About Time
Fugitive Motel
Puncture
I’ve Got Your Number
Switching Off

I didn’t stick around for Irving and Earlimart (I am a fan, but was tired and didn’t feel like staying). Though, I did get a preview of Irving’s set while they did their sound check. I think a lot of people here would like ‘em. As a friend put it, “it’s happy go lucky pop”. You should check them out if you’ve not.

Wish you had been there. :)

Fuck yeah I am. FANON FLOWERS! I need me some Detroit techno, although I can do without the Detroit boys.... coughjcough. Plus, it's Vidal's birthday so if I don't go, I'm totally fired.

And I'll be working from 10pm-1am tomorrow night. In any case, swing by after the show if you're not tired. :)

No no no no, it got moved to Zen Sushi (upstairs) for tomorrow night only. Something about the owner @ El Cid double-booking gigs so Paulie had to move L-Train to Zen Sushi.

And I'm sure Vidal will be stoked you're coming out for Interface, we oughta give him 25 birthday spankings.

Zen Sushi? The one on Santa Monica Blvd? Shit, I'll be just down the street. What's parking there like?

I'll give Vidal 25 of something, alright. ;)

And from NME:

CALIFORNIA DREAMING!

ELBOW have gone to LA to continue work on their third album.

Having finished recording tracks for their third album at Blueprint studios in Manchester, the band are now in Los Angeles mixing the tracks with producer Tom Rothrock.

Singer Guy Garvey told NME.COM: “We came out to LA to work with Tom Rothrock. We're mixing the record in Marlene Dietrich’s house in the Hollywood Hills which couldn’t more different from Salford, where the new songs were recorded.”

More details on the album and release dates will be confirmed on NME.COM shortly.
