From my west coast Canuck perspective, it seems you guys have descended into jibberish. Either that or you're speaking in tongues. Furry, booze-sodden tongues at that. Still, through persistence and toil, I've managed to discern that there's some kind of job opportunity on the near horizon - best of luck, LooGAR, and I hope you nail it.

OW!!!! Capitol Hill has some bars and available women. Good luck Dave. Let me know how it goes.

Tangent: I stayed at a bed & breakfast in D.C. on South Carolina St. owned by some old British woman. She cooked me sausage and stewed tomatoes for breakfast. It was great.

Agreed. An employed, upwardly-mobile Loog set loose in D.C. has frightening implications for the lawmaking process.

He's probably pretty tame compared to some of those ether breathing freaks up there. But then again, maybe not.

Everytime I try to picture him working, I go back to his pretend-threat to pick up Max Cleland out of his wheelchair, gently turn him upside down, and shake him till he agreed to whatever Loog was lobbying for at the time... Can't get that image out of my head.

I always liked the idea of throwing him up in the air like Dat Baby!! (Mike knows of what I speak)

Interviews tomorrow at 10 am and noon, and hopefully one or two after that...depends on who I can talk to.

Thanks for the support, everybody, it helps to know I have friends )real and interweb) behind me!

Tomorrow, The World!!

Predictions as of this morning were 4-8". Right now, I'd say we are at 5. It hasn't really snowed hard all day, but it hasn't exactly stopped either. I think it's supposed to keep going, so we may end up at the high end. My sources say roads are clear, though, so the airports may not be a problem.

Lots of snow, but roads and runways seemed pretty clear, as in, there were no delays...you should be OK.

UMCP was actually closed today. That never fucking happens.

Wasn't it UNC a couple years ago that got snowed out when we got dumped on to the tune of two feet?

So, I was able to score meetings/interviews with the three major campaign committees. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and Democratic National Committee (DNC).

DCCC was first, at 10am. I got there around 9:40, and they came out and started early. It was kind of annoying, because this is the least presitigious committee, with the least knowledgable and experienced (especially on actual campaigns) personnel, so they feel like they have to condesecend to you. At foirst I was thinking "Why the fuck did I even come up here," but then I asked them about the specific job I wanted (being the guy who flies out to all the campaigns in a given region and whips the staff and candidates into shape) and I got to talk to two more people, and that went better. One of them actually worked with my boss on the Gephardt presd'l race, and so we hit it off, and even talked football. I n my follow up email I mentioned to him that we need "more people like us" around the DCCC. I think I have an OK shot at getting some kind of offer from them.

I then went to the DSCC, and though I was early, the meeting started on time. The person I interviewed with was impressed with the campaigns I had worked, my organizational skills, and flawless memory (being able to tell her how much I raised out of Boston and from whom was a big plus) and she was from North Carolina, and has relatives in 'Bama, so we got along well, I sent her some references to call and some writing samples, and feel like I have a damn fine chance of getting a job there (don't want to be too cocky)

Last, but not least was DNC. The guy came out late, and the meeting was short, because he just started a week ago, and is running around crazy trying to evaluate who's there, and decide who to keep, who to jettison, and who to fire. He was nice enough, but told me the DNC was different than all the other committees and campaigns, b/c the finance staff raises the money withoutt the benefit of a 'principle,' aka someone doing the asking who is important. I assured him I had no problem with that, and that i was used to dealing with testy donors.

All in all, it was well worth the trip, and I guess we'll just have to wait and see what becomes of it, but i would not be surprised at all if I was once again a resident of the District in the next 2 weeks to a month.

Er. sorry. I was a bartender in a rather rough establishment for a while. It's the basic assault with broken pint glass between argumentative drunks. Neck of a beer bottle works, too!

Note: not an actual threat. Previous post was exaggerated for effect.

I always prefer the using a mug handle as fulcrum technique myself.

No threat detected...nor intended by response.

You can do it.

And you don't need mojo. You do, however, need an altoid.

EDIT: Boy am i slow. Congrats on the good interviews you charming political type, you.

I have a colleague who has a scar just the shape of 'glass to the temple' and for ages assumed he had good stories. When I nudged to hear it turned out he had had a brain tumor. Whoops.

How does the mug handle help? Are you staying around to twist it in their flesh? I suppose that's a perk of being a big dude. I would be more inclined to get out after drawing blood, should it come to that.

Also, phil's altoid tips are good. In my five days on non-stop interviews last week I mentally thanked him repeatedly.
