I always see this band listed alongside my favorite bands from the 90s, yet I never listened to them.

I had one album for a brief period - I think it was You'd Prefer an Astronaut - but I barely remember what it was like. I have this vague recollection that it was very grey and drony sounding.

Help me out here. Should I give this band another chance? A different album perhaps?

Someone define their sound for me.

Heaven! Pop-drone?

Probably in my Top 5 favorite bands ever!

'You'd Prefer an Astronaut' had the mild hit 'Stars', but i personally prefer the follow up 'Downward is Heavenward' more so.

You should be able to find either record fairly easy.

There two previous records, Electra 2000 and Fillet Show were different sounding and not really a honest portrait of the brilliant (IMO) songs the band created later on....

I like Hem but don't own any Hum and don't really like Him though Haim is sometimes entertaining.

Downward is Heavenward is a great album. Probably top 20 of all-time for me.

I second giving them another chance. Plus its cheap, being only 2 albums that you'd really need to own from them.

one of those bands i was surprised to find had a following. I like their albums enough, but they never seemed particularly special.

I like Hem and the Chicago-based HiM but not HIM or Hum.

The real question is when you turn them on, do they return the favor?

I came here to make this EXACT same post. I'm turning into PopTodd. Except I still don't have any musical talent.
