Couldn't find the supposed Netflix thread, so I figured I'd start a new one.

Saw both of these in the last couple days. Pather Panchali is awesome - I'd put it off for a long time, but now I really want to see the other two parts of the Apu Trilogy. Lilies of the Field was pretty dull. The acting was good, but I had no emotional connection to the characters at all, and NOTHING HAPPENS over the course of the film.

I've got these up for this weekend:

Anyone seen them? Thoughts?

Haven't seen any of those.

A couple of nights ago I saw Paris, je t'aime. Pretty good overall. Some of the segments were really great. I really like Alexander Payne's, The Coen Brothers', and Sylvain Chomet's segments. Some of them were really dull or silly (like Wes Craven's), and I missed a couple of them. Worth seeing.

Oldboy was cool, Sunshine was a bit of a letdown, and I've really been into Sergio Leone lately and America was the last of his movies I needed to see and it was outstanding.

it was decent, needed more bloodshed.

Image

much better than the other recent "crazy kid" movie (first snow). sam rockwell was good but the mother annoyed the hell out of me. the kid was creepy.

Image

it was alright. it didn't drag, which i was expecting from the 3 hour running time of the unrated edition but when measured up against the godfather & goodfellas, it's weak.

Image

MUCH better than mystic river, thanks to the absence of sean penn. plus, it's in boston. also, casey affleck was great and i kept expecting him to get the shit beat out of him thanks to his wiseass comments. i wish they'd gone into why a lot of people in the neighborhood seem to hate him though.

"Gone Baby Gone" was EXCELLENT... even if it is a little predictable.

So awesome to see this after so long, but haven't watched disc 2 yet:

This was pretty good, not as great as everyone was making it out to be:

The story to Once is alright, but the music is fucking AWFUL.

I also hated Oldboy. Like, a lot.

I sort of agree.

both were awesome. . . the first one was a really nice surprise--warp films (which i didn't even know existed)--so it's got a great soundtrack.

i'm also slowly wending my way through six discs of:

I saw this with catswillshityou last night. It was sort of awesome, in a 1970s John Waters + Danny Elfman way.

Pretty damn excellent for this type of movie.

Image

Because I watch it at least once a week.

Image

Not a movie, but I haven't watched many movies of late because I've been going through this. Cute. Lee Pace (guy from Pushing Daisies and my current actor crush) is in it and I identify with the chick. I played right into that one.

The "twist" was just so stupid that it made anything before it stupid as well. I didn't HATE it until the very end, but that ruined it.

I agree with this statement 100%.

I've got Day of The Dead and Dario Argento's Susperia arriving tonight. I'll probably watch them tomorrow.

I don't know which twist you're referring to, but as far as who the villain turned out to be and what his motivation was, plus the whole drawn-out ending confrontation, that was all pretty sucky.

The other twist, well... I don't know if I'd call that stupid...

Riding Giants and My Architect were enjoyable. Andrei Rublev was trying but rewarding - The only other Tarkovsky I've seen was Solaris, and much like that, it took several sittings to wade through.[/img]
