Malformed Men wasn't much of a horror movie -- just strange. It starts out well enough as a mystery of sorts, and eventually moves into an odd, Japanese version of 'Freaks' (again, using legitimately deformed non-actors for show) by way of Lynch.

I liked the beginning and end of the movie but the middle was just really weird and the guy who played Jogoro was too goofy/fruity. Lots of naked asian girls though. Where'd you hear they were actually deformed? Everything I've read about it is that most of the extras were performance-art dancers.

I need to read up on this movie, but I'm not sure why it's still banned in Japan. It wasn't scary and wasn't even gruesome. What a bore. The music was kind of cool, though.

When I went to the Fangoria fest in CA earlier this year, I watched a panel with the director and cast of the movie. they showed us a 10 minute trailer, which was awesome. I never got to see it in the theaters as it only lasted about two weeks, but I picked it up on DVD this past week and watched it....Exactly....Goofy but awesome!

Felt like reviving this thread after spending my last two evenings entrenched in some Spanish and French horror:

The first four are part of a six-film anthology called Films to Keep You Awake; the Baby's Room was sort of disappointing but the others were great. I still need to track down the last two in the series.

[REC] was pretty slick (reminiscent of 28 Days Later from a first-person cameraman perspective) and had some really effective "jump" moments. Definitely not for folks bothered by motion sickness, though, or a low tollerance for extended bouts of shrieking, screaming and snarling.

l'Interieur has a very simple concept -- pregnant woman tries to fend off crazed intruder -- and some of the most wonderfully gratuitous, messy violence I've seen in quite a while. My mouth fell open in horrified glee on many occasions. Utterly absurd and all the better for it!

I just want to reinforce that Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon was really good -- especially if you're already a horror movie buff. I didn't think slasher films could get deconstructed again after Scream, but I was wrong.

Bought the Films to Keep You Awake used off someone, but there's a Spanish boxset available that I might spring for since these discs are in sort of rough shape.

l'Interieur is from Fnac. I'd seen a torrent of the movie before but it was dubbed in Spanish and had messed up subs; the French DVD doesn't have any subs, unfortunately, but have watched it before, the dialog is pretty inconsequential, minimal and barely even necessary. The Weinsteins have the rights to it in the US, so it'll obviously be years before they release it and it'll probably be edited to hell anyway.

[REC] was just a plain ol' subbed torrent.

Hey Shiv, how was "Once"?

Recent horror:

The Ugly - The story was a little weak. Lots of "TELL ME!" but not really enough to "tell". The interaction between the overbearing, psychotic mother and the son was interesting.
High Tension - Good stuff. Has an ending that I never saw coming.
The Great American Snuff Film - Terrible. Advertised as a true story and it's not. The narration (in the voice of the killer) was so irritating, I had to ff through most of it.

i haven't watched it yet. i watched the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford yesterday and it was agonizing. too fucking long , trying to be too artsy, jesse james actions before his killing made no sense.

you'll rent anything huh?

the graphics suck but i don't need a commercial for Manhunt 2 in the middle of my movie.

A lot of people love it. I personally hated it, but you should check it out for yourself. Maybe if you have a drink or two to warm you up it'll be a nice experience.

i put off once and went and saw diary of the dead instead. the "movie within a movie" plot came off a little easier than cloverfield but it was about 15 minutes too long. MUCH better than land of the dead though. and pretty good gore.

Didn't realize it was coming out so soon, but Amazon has a preorder up (and horrible cover artwork) for l'Interieur on April 15th.

Planning to watch Mother of Tears and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane tonight.

I could only find one torrent for Mandy Lane and it's a pretty weak cam job. Curious to see if you're grabbing the same one.

Mother of Tears is really bad so far, although there is a monkey.
