So there's this girl that is the friend of a friend's girlfriend. I have met her once and then had about an hour of interaction with her on a separate occassion. I am, on a basic level, interested in this female as well. However, it has not worked out because of work schedules and things of that nature for me to actually hang out with her again.

So that last time I hung out with her I asked her what music she liked and one of the "artists" she mentioned was Yanni. hahaha.

So I haven't seen her in like 2 months probably. The other day I am sitting at home watching television when I see this commercial that Yanni is playing at the HP Pavilion in San Jose this coming friday. It's his only bay area appearance dammit. So, last night me and my couple friends decided that I would get her number from my other friend and I would call her and say, "Listen, I know I hardly know you, but I remember a while back you said you listened to Yanni. Well, tickets are available for me to go to the show if I want them. Would you be interested in going? The only catch, of course, is that you have to go with me."

I cannot decide whether or not to follow through with this or not. The tickets will end up costing me about 100 bucks. Plus, its Yanni. But, outside of this ridiculous adventure it is possible I won't really ever see this girl again.

What do you all think? Telling me I am a tool is not going to be much help, because I already know that. Any suggestions for that first awkward phone call? Should I bring ear plugs to the show if it happens? etc....

She best be hot as the devil's nutsack or you've sold your soul to grief, man. Yanni in your life is worse than shacking up with someone who thinks Cletus T. Judd is highbrow.

that's a tough one. i would've probably found out another "artist" she likes. i just can't imagine myself using yanni as an excuse to see a girl. would it have been so hard to just get her number then? i know i'm not very good at it sometimes, but there must be an easier way than through yanni.

for yanni, she better the best looking woman ever. and there better be some kinda action for you at the end of the night too for putting someone through that kind of torture. if yes to both questions, than i would say hell yes, get the hell out of the door and go to yanni.

oh fuck it dude if you felt that much between the two of you go for it. I personally happen to think just calling her and asking to lunch or something would be easier, but hey if you need to go for the grand statement then go for it.

...oh wait, Yanni scored Linda Evans. Screw it, dude, go to the concert, Shit, wear a long black man-wig and a moustache, put on a white suit and talk about the undying beauty of swans at sunset. Go for it.

I think that I am willing to take it. It is extremely out of character for me. This is the guy who has never asked a girl out before. ever. So, the risk this time is of necessity because I think I a want to try and be a bit more courageous with the ladies than I have in the past.

As a girl who has only been asked out once and done the asking any other time, please do. Especially if you're more willing than ever with this girl. I would guess it wouldn't even take a Yanni concert, but if that's how you want to do it, go for it man.

Update:

I called and asked her. She said, "thanks for thinking about me, but I am scheduled to work that evening."

To which I replied, "Sure, no problem. But, now that I have snuck around and got your phone number I am sure I will call again sometime. Maybe we can get coffee in the near future."

I am such a wuss. I should have asked for tonight.

Now, do you think calling back in a little bit and saying, "what are you doing tonight?" is worthwhile or is that just borderline wierd?

she said "sure" to the coffee remark.

and I called three male friends tonight and asked if I should call back. Two said hell yes, one said maybe I shouldn't.

Then, I called one of my female friends from college and her and her three roomates all told me to call her back but make it sound casual not desperate.

I called back. We are hanging out tonight, sort of. Me and some mutual friends are going to a movie. We'll see what happens after the film.

Thanks for all the help folks.

So you go out a couple times, you like each other, you get married.

You go to work, you come home, she's fixing dinner and has Yanni on the fookin' stereo!

It's not gonna work, I tells ya.

If Yanni had happened and a relationship florished, the story would be a pretty funny one to tell.

Ah well.

So, what DOES she look like?

This had better be good Joe.

And don't act desperate. Watch the Tao of Steve. Alone. Or with guys, but definitely NOT with girls. Take notes.

isn't this supposed to be pretty much cut n' paste? you should totally be able to do this. but do not call her twice in a night, no matter how hard that sounds. Girls like it when you call and ask them out, and trust me being nervous about it is probably gonna help your case. But wait a few days and then try to ring her again. awkard is fine. creepy is not.

Well folks,

despite your greatest hopes, she is not the hottest woman alive. I think she is rather beautiful but I have come to realize that my taste in women, besides being unbelievably picky, is not that similar to most and remains one of the most subjective arenas of my life.

To give a brief bit. She's mexican. She's about 5'3ish. She's got dark hair(obviously). She's somewhat petite I would say. But I'll be damned if she's not one of them girls that I could enjoy just looking at, in a "i need to take some portrait photos of you" way. She has this somewhat humorous but rather endearingly cute hiccup thing. She hiccups out of nowhere. It's funny. She's a "light-skinned" mexican I suppose is what it is called. She is also allergic in the Lactose intolerant way to flour and yeast. Yikes that's gotta be tough.

Anyway, for those of you who told me to wait, I hope your souls are forever damned. haha. I did call her, which I mentioned in a previous post. She invited me to a movie with her and some mutual friends, also noted in a previous post, and we had a splendid time. It was nothing fancy and it wasn't overly awkward except for this part in The Incredibles where one of the characters goes to ask out one of the main characters and he's fumbling over words. Hopefully I was the only one who instantly thought of myself. I did not say anything then about hanging out again and am planning on calling her either monday or tuesday to set in stone a future time of social interaction.
