Took a few weeks for me to come around on the s/t back in 98 and sure enough, after much the same "wtf?" response at first as y'all, I've really started taking to about half the tracks - which, to be fair, is about right, as I've never loved one of their records from beginning to end (though I admired the production and vox).

Not sure how I feel about the Terminator on machine gun, but the rest of that track really grabbed me after a few days.

Yeah, this is pretty dismal. And before you mommysuckers even say it, I HATE Portishead.

i like it. album's not as good as first 2, but holds up well vs most of what i've heard this year.

I've decided that after many attempts, I really don't like this new Portishead album.

Lots of interesting ideas that go nowhere unfortunately.

I finally started listening to this tonight. I'd already heard "Silence" and loved it -an excellent opener btw - and the next few were "growers" of a sort: at first unimpressed but loved how they progressed. "The Rip" is a perfect example to me. Plus I was listening on in-ear buds with an early Sat. evening bzzzzz on (I think this helped ;) ).

I can hear some interesting mixes forthcoming. Probably some bad ones too but for sure a couple goodies.

Ok. I've given this album every chance I can afford to give it. Literally dozens of chances. And not only does it do nothing for me, but it still strikes me as largely unlistenable and out of tune. Deleted.
