How do you uninstall the drivers for my graphic card and if I should want them back for any reason do I have to back them up or something?

I extend my cordial appreciation to anyone that provides knowledge or insight which enables me to carry out this task. Also known as "thanks".

You can always download them from the manufacturer, given that you know what kind of graphics card you have. To uninstall, go into control panel -> system -> device manager -> display adapters then right-click on your video card and click "properties." There should be an option to uninstall there.

I'd do that Obner thumbs up thing but I don't know how to do that either.

Are you getting a new graphic card? I've never worried about removing old drivers when installing newer hardware... The newer device's drivers will still be needed, and will be used.
As far as needing them back, if you don't remove them they should still be there if you have to go back to the old video card.

You should make it a habit to download the newest versions of drivers off of manufacturer's websites instead of using the discs that ship with the hardware. There are almost always newer versions of drivers released after the product ships, especially with top-end video cards.

Yeah I'm getting a new graphics card just as soon as UPS stop delibrately coming while I'm not in. I think they have a guy with binoculars staking out my house. "OK he's just gone out. Go! Go! Go!"

The one I've got at the moment is just the crappy one that came with the PC so I'm not even sure who the manufacturer is.

Then I wouldn't uninstall its drivers until you're sure the new card is working well.

It's still not a big deal to uninstall the drivers because just about every graphics card works with windows's default VGA driver. However, Max is correct about not needing to uninstall them. You can just pop the new guy in and install those drivers.

Unless, of course, it's an AGP card for a PCI slot or vice versa. Darrin, does it look like it should fit?

It's a PCI connector but the card is to long.

There's no way I can put the card into the connector because of the position of the slot and the length of the card. Unless of couse I vandalise the slots at the back and have a big hole in the back of my computer but then I'd have half the card sticking out the back.

Are you sure it's not an AGP slot (as shown in brown, PCI is white)?

That sounds more like a PCI card being crammed into an AGP slot... the position of the slot should always line up with the back of the PC if it is the correct format. AGP cards/slots have about 3-4 inches between the slot and the rear of the PC. PCI cards/slots only have about a 1/2 inch gap.

It's a PCI.

I just did a google search and got this of a PC message board.

"The Dell's that are used at my school are so far from industry standard you would have to cut the metal for your own case to custom fit their mobo's."

I've been looking around at pics of graphic cards and there's no way any of them are going to fit in. The PCI is to close to the slot.

when i got the wireless card for my destop i was all annoyed that i didn't have any slots left until i realized that i didn't really need a modem as i don't have a phone. maybe you can work something out by moving other cards around, if it's not the slot-type problem.

I think you'll want to keep the video card in slot 1 if possible, though.
