anybody catch this?
i heard about it last night, and didn't believe it until i googled it today.

next question: does this matter to anyone? i'll openly admit that one of the reasons i shopped there was the fact that they were an independent record store, and i very much like their selection and specials. hmmm....

While owned by Warner, according to the article, this is the company that distributes records from Sub Pop, Matador, Touch & Go, etc.

If I wanna support something independent and all that I go grab something at a local shop. If I'm ordering online, it's all faceless to me.

Yeah, ADA's handled a lot of "Indie" Distro for a while now. Plus, WB owns a sizeable chunk of Sup Pop anyway...

As for this news, I answer with a simple "meh".

i guess i've made the leap where online shops are not faceless. what does that say about my virtual/real self balance? hehe.

If I'm not mistaken, ADA also owns Allmusic.com.

I would think this would be a good thing. Will they still offer other labels'goods?

I don't think this is the case with T&G, but aren't Sub Pop and Matador partially owned by majors anyway?

matador was partially owned by a major (EMI), and then went through a messy divorce to become independent again. i think the price of their freedom was liz phair and her catalogue.

i think sub pop may have a similar story, but i'm not certain.

Yeah, they were always pretty expensive. Never really the best option anyway.

Who knows, their prices might even go down a little now. If not, no loss.

I don't think I ever have bought anything from them besides a gc for a friend because I was stuck on what to get him.

Right now I'm stuck on Dusty Groove.
