CMJ was a study in ineptness.

Do they still do the mag with the cd? I look for it everytime I go to a place that may carry it and no dice.
I'm only here because I was there before.

Yeah, Waterloo in Austin carries it. I never see it anywhere else.

Here's what CMJ has been reporting lately at cmj.com

Image

New Jersey’s We Are The Seahorses are an odd bunch. Last month after posting a review of their Cake Shop shop, I had many people questioning me with a mixture of fascination and repulsion about the band. I could really only describe the show as a blue of glitter, confetti, and an almost naked Darren Mabee; Friday night’s show at Silent Barn wasn’t much different.

Sometimes a band is worth seeing two times in a row. Such was the case with Anavan this weekend as they played a second show opening for Excepter at Glasslands. The band’s second Brooklyn show had them quite literally climbing the wall

You interview bands often. How does this relate to your work at WVUA?
I started off as a sophomore interviewing bands like Panic At The Disco and the Academy Is. This year, my big interviews have been the A-Sides and Tom Gabel and Warren Oakes of Against Me! I think these interviews definitely relate to my work at WVUA because it allows the listeners to connect with their favorite bands on a personal level. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that bands are human, and interviews allow bands to express themselves in a realistic way that is appealing to our listeners. These interviews, and even legal [station] IDs, definitely benefit our station because, honestly, they make the station look cool. We have a legal ID from Jeff Tweedy, which is pretty much the coolest thing ever.

Yeah, I'm not missing reupping that subscription that never came.

yeah. we're being unrealistic if we think cmj can ever again have as good a lineup as scott, steve, nico, and whiney.

I could never get a profile in that magazine in my 3 years as an MD. I tried several times, no luck. Though I was nominated for one of their silly college music awards: I lost to WFMU's Brian Turner. Go figure.

I dunno, that MD interview is eerily close to what used to be said--sub in any number of 90s indie bands and Frank Black instead of Tweedy and it could've come from 97.

(Seriously, if not for the girl looking up, the picture looks like one of shiv's surreptitious rack shots.)
