Eh..

The special features are better than the movie.

I actually liked this quite a bit. The script was certainly flawed, but I appreciate the overall message/attempt of Linklater.

That's because of Jason Patric.

I thought this was a pretty good movie though, underrated. I enjoyed the Iraq war commentary as murder mystery approach. Ending was a little heavy handed but it didn't bother me.

Surprisingly wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. Tries to be a million other films--Donnie Brasco--but falls short on a few points.

Pretty much all the "stars" of the film phoned in their performances. Duvall...my god, how's he has fallen. It used to be that even when thrown a shit part, the man would come through and deliver at least a worthy few minutes on screen. Nerp. Not here. First, in my eyes Duvall can't play a badass. His accent just lends itself to soft, "come on in and have some dinna" stylings. He should just do cowboy films from here on out. Joaquim has done a couple of good turns before, and here right when you think he might go into some good acting, the switch gets flipped. Wahlberg...well, come on, its Marky Mark and nothing you say will ever get those CK ads unburned out of my head.

Some good scenes. An excellent heart-pounding car scene in the rain, no less. Some excellent cinematography in the club scenes.

It just fell into that cop seeking drug dealer in a period piece wrapper. It isn't horrible, but it certainly isn't terrific.

Just finished watching and it's pretty good.

Cusack and Zuniga make a great pair and Rob Reiner's directing doesn't entirely suck in this teen flick.

Funny to see Anthony Edwards all jazzed up talking on a "cordless".

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Peh. Way too long (though I don't know what they could cut), and boring. Good things about it: Casey Affleck (again -- I liked him in Gone Baby Gone as well) -- I think he was perfectly cast for the part; the ending (not because it was over, I actually just plain liked the ending -- it allowed me to realize that the movie was mostly about Robert Ford, not Jesse James); the experimental use of music -- for the most part, the music was used during transitional scenes, not important ones. It wasn't done with as much panache as say, the Coen Brothers, but I still liked the fact that the director was willing to experiment that way. So kudos to that. Bad things about it: the entire first half was just plain boring, despite having some what should have been intense sequences. I almost vetoed it.

I did enjoy Nick Cave's guest appearance.

I still don't know how exactly I feel about it, but for some reason the Tim Meadows drug jokes were killing me.

Yeah, I agree with just about everything you said about this...pretty cool stylistically, but it was just way too boring to keep me interested.

My favorite film of last year. Probably the best cinematography of the past 10 years I'll even venture to say. I really liked it for many reasons, but I think the pacing is one of the things that intrigued me. Its very much a character piece, as opposed to the shoot 'em up style we've come to find with most Westerns. Also, ironically the filmmaker has takes such an American genre and made it completely in the vein of a European character study piece. For every person who said they enjoyed it, I've found 10 who hated it.

Just saw Snow Angels... & as one of the other attendees said as she left, after hearing me yelp, "Uplifting!", it's like a good novel that's missing several pages.

Also, Olivia Thirlby's O-face.

This is probably true, but I don't think he completely went and made it a character study, which is why it took me most of the film to figure that out, and by the time I did, it was practically over. If I had gone in knowing this, I might've mentally prepared myself and been able to enjoy it more, as I really don't mind slowly paced films in general. I listen to post-rock, fer pete's sake.

3:10 To Yuma (remake)

Didn't really like this. There was just something missing.

Ben Foster is developing into a fine character actor, and I'm really looking forward to seeing him grow.

the ruins was alright. it seemed a little too rushed and i think the changes from the book to the script were a little bit for the worse. i haven't finished the book yet but i sort of know the outcome from reading a review and i think i'll enjoy the book more. gore was decent but it seems like the "vine" was relegated to supporting actor where in the book it's the main adversary. it was ok for $6 though.

I'm debating on whether or not to start American Gangster right now.

Probably a good idea not to start that...ever.

Oh, I wasn't calling you stupid or anything, I'm just saying that, at least in my eyes, they made it intentionally slow because JJ was always seen as a daring, action-star of the West, and in reality he had slow points just like any other man on earth. On a whole, it wasn't even really about JJ, he just became a vessel to tell the story of Robert Ford. Its one of the reasons why I felt, as you mentioned, Casey Affleck was so understated. He really nailed the role. At least he got nominated for an Oscar--not JJ, but I'm just quabbling on that fact.
