Southern Lord? www.southernlord.com

It seems like all I listen to these days are releases from these guys over the last two years or so.....Nice, that I'm friends with the owner....Not that there is anything wrong with that....

What labels are you digging? and what bands from that label make you happy in the pants the most?

Jagjaguwar is a recent one I noticed that I've been listening to a lot of.

COP International, Dancing Ferret, Metropolis, A Different Drum, Alfa Matrix, "Fax", Rather Interesting..., et al

...and I just love the name: Konigskinder Schallplatten

Far too many but an impromptu top 3 right now would be:

Blocks Recording Club - Katie Stelmanis, The Blankket, The Barcelona Pavilion, and more
Cloudberry - Summer Cats, Soda Fountain Rag, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, ++
Happy Happy Birthday To Me - Cars Can Be Blue, Fishboy, The Lolligags, etc.

Also Elefant, Labrador, Slumberland, WeePOP!, K, Bus Stop, Yes Boy Ice Cream...

#1: kompakt - kompakt stays consistent with their releases.... been putting out some solid ones: jennifer cardini, robert babicz, justus kohncke. only thing i haven't dug of theirs was that field album, blech

#2: dfa - this nu disco/disco dub/whatever lame sub genre you want to call it has been getting back into house music again: hercules & love affair, holy ghost, still going

#3: xl - kris has been signing some solid bands so can't go wrong there

Southern Lord is pretty great MOST of the time. Troubleman Unlimited (as mentioned above) has got some great stuff. And let's not forget In the Red Records - one of my favorites.

As usual, F**K You Dave's post is a fucking joke.

What about the other three people who posted about Merge? Or maybe they weren't joking.

I don't know that I'd pick Merge now, but they're certainly up there for long-term consistent quality. If that were the criteria, I think there are only a few I'd think of before them. Like Touch & Go.

Dave, you can ignore anyone that thinks troubleman unlimited is a consistent label.

CD's, yes....Special edition and colored vinyl, sometimes, but more often then not, I pay 'cost'.

American Music Club
Big Dipper
Caribou
Destroyer
The Ladybug Transistor
Oakley Hall
Polvo
Radar Bros.
The Rosebuds
She & Him
Shout Out Louds
Spoon
M. Ward
Wye Oak

I dunno...thats a pretty impressive roster that a lot of labels would kill for.

The only band I don't like on the label is Spaceheads...and what have they put out lately.

don't forget:
Arcade Fire
Bob Pollard
Superchunk
Trail Of Dead
Portastatic
The Broken West

Yeah, they're a real fucking joke...sorry they don't put out music for doing meth and fucking your cousins.
