i was watching Rattle and Hum the other night, and i couldnt help but see some similarities between Interpol and rattle and hum era U2. The music, just seemed......I can't explain it, it's something intangible....can anyone else feel me on this one or am i way off?

but im alway curious as to the age of those that slag u2.....i usually find that the younger a person is, the less likely they are to like u2....but those that remember albums like boy, war, and even joshua tree being released like them more....

I remember Joshua Tree just fine, unfortunately.

I'm 43 and don't much care for U2. I distinctly remember "Boy" being released to much hype, I did in fact buy it, and didn't get what the fuss was about. Give me Bunnymen's first album, and entire output, over U2s any day of the week.

U2 is a band I should have mentioned in the "bands you give lip service to thread" last week.

The similarities I can see here are Interpol has released two decent albums much like the first two U2 records. Two out of the next three U2 records were legitimate classics (War, Joshua Tree) and the other one (Unforgettable Fire) isn't too shabby in its own right.

The problems for U2 came right after that as they have not released anything I want to own, play acknowledge etc since. So, much like REM their legacy is tainted. The chances of Interpol releasing anything called a classic are slim and none, so I really don't think they will be a topic for the same discussion in the future.

I don't hold any major backlash against Interpol, and I try to suspend disbelief and believe that U2 broke somewhere around 1990.

U2 is fucking terrible.

Interpol is slightly worse.

I enjoy both U2 and Interpol although I dont see any real difference.

There are moments where Interpol sounds like U2, but never the reverse. U2 has has this distinctly unique personality since they started. Interpol on the other hand has never had a moment where they weren't compared to some former band.

U2 makes statements in some of their songs, I don't think you can say the same about Interpol. BUT, Interpol, at this stage in their career seem to be able to create this carrying mood with just a few seconds of a song, such as "Untitled ".

Pros and Cons to both, but U2 is by far the greater band.

I just don't get the U2-hate. Ooops, I don't get the hate for a lot of good bands. The Sen. and I discussed this a couple weeks ago.

Interpol is pretty alright by me, I've grown to really like Antics. I think that it is better than Turn on The Bright Lights though I know that a lot of people disagree. Hmmm

np: Interpol: Turn on the Bright Lights (trying to get to the bottom of this one once and for all until next week)
