Why do people feel the need to recreate the "feel & sound" of old soul/funk records? Don't they realize they'll never better their idols?

This style of music, along with Def Leppard and most latin dance music is probably my least favorite. Sorry to pull a Rads/Danny Don't Rapp and piss on your white-boy soul party.

better this than trying to be another r&b act with that awful slick production.

i respect you stu, but this is about the dumbest thing you've ever said on here.

why does any band feel the need to play in a classic style, no matter what type of music it is? possibly, just possibly it's because they LOVE that music, and want to play it.

but yeah, back to our white boy soul party. dude, really.

I'm just coming down on it because I don't like it. No real argument here. I mean I dig retreads of Spacemen 3 and shoegazer type stuff (A Place to Buyer Strangers anyone?). I just don't like funk.

4 songs in, and they're all 1-key jams, and there's lots of flute. I was expecting something a little different.

This album is pretty good, but the flute/horn sounds completely throw me off...

I don't know (seriously). I guess chord changes, and choruses, stops, turns, dynamics, more classical song construction with a beginning middle and end... something. This sound more like people jamming than someone having sat down and written a song. They're good at what they're doing, but it's harder for me to get engaged. Damn.

why are you trying to make dance music more complicated?

it's a sweaty bash out that makes you feel damn good. pretty simple.

Yeah I know. I'm kinda pissed - I wanted to really like it. This probably stems from my innate inability to dance.

This is pretty much where I am. It can have the sweat and the sex without giving up on being interesting.
